Not sure if subject has been questioned or not. I tried searching but got mixed answers figured this be the place to come.
Im currently looking into getting my CHL but the problem i have is that my drivers license address isnt the same as my current living address. I currently live in a rental home and not really my own home. Will the addresses not matching cause a problem when doing my online application for my CHL.
before anyone asks why not just change it. The reason ive never changed my DL address is the past 4 years ive lived in 2 different locations due to landlords wanting to raise rent or not wanting renew my lease. Meaning i would constantly have to keep changing it to new addresses.
DL address vs current location (for my chl)

I'll preface this by saying, IANAL.
Texas Administrative Code: Title 37, part 1, chapter 6.
Residence--One's home and fixed place of habitation to which one intends to return after any temporary absence. The term "residence" has the meaning assigned in §15.25 of this title (relating to Address).

You need to update your DL address to your current domicile. Since this process as well as an update for a CHL can be performed online, twice in 4 years doesn't seem that onerous a chore.

The state requires updating of DL address within 30 days of move in...not having your current address on your DL can cause an assumption of lack of responsibility. Don't give them anything to question.

true.. should of done it way back but it hadnt expired yet so i guess it just slipped my mine. Only cost me 11 bucks to change it. Got it on my to-do list when i get home today to do online. Once changed can im assuming i have to wait till it comes in the mail to fill the application, or can i use the paper copy?

I don't believe a copy of your DL is required...they have all that info. So, as soon as the address change is completed (i.e. you have that piece of paper from the DPS office, you should be good to go to apply with that address.

You will learn, in your CHL class, that you are required to notify DPS of your address change within 30 days or your CHL may be suspended. Just FYI for future reference; it will be more important than ever, once you attain your CHL, that you keep your address up-to-date.

I suggest telling the truth on the application and let the chips fall where they may.
