Today I took my 15 year old daughter to the Driver's license office to get her learner's permit. As part of this process, they require 2 forms of proof of residence. I was surprised to learn that the DPS DL office does not accept your driver's license, the very one they issue, as one of the acceptable forms of proof of address. They do allow things such as a proof of liability insurance card, voter registration card, household bills and.....a CHL. I asked 2 different clerks why my DL was not acceptable, the first one said "well, people have the wrong address on their DL all the time, we know they check more closely on a CHL." The second said, "I am not sure, I guess because we issue it."
Well, at least the CHL saved me a trip back home. Just thought I'd share.
