Nevada's governor vetoes gun control law today

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval on Thursday vetoed Democratic-backed legislation that would have strengthened gun-control rules by requiring background checks on customers in all gun sales in the state, including private transactions.

I asked a friend of mine living there if it was the Clark County influence. His impression was that it more had to do with out of staters influencing things. Something to be leery of here as MAIG steps up their assault.

My wife's family are in Nevada.
My BIL Tom, believes that the money flooding into Dem. re-election coffers from out of state groups like MAIG directly influenced the vote, most definitely in the Senate. There were bogus poll results showing that the majority of Nevadans, even conservatives, supported universal background checks, paid for by nebulous groups that didn't exist 6 months ago, and never really existed other than as a single paid political hack with a fax machine and broadcast email lists.
In spite of the outside influence, the legislation came down to a last day, last minute vote and was added as an amendment to a mental health care bill.
Governor Sandoval stated at the time of passage that he would veto the bill whether it impacted his re-election or not.
The only other gun related legislation that was passed was AB76 which allows CCW licensees to qualify with one gun, instead of the old requirement to qualify with every gun that they were going to carry. The Governor signed this legislation.
The Californication of Nevada is just about complete though. With a huge liberal majority in Clark County, and the recent influence of transplanted Californians in Washoe County, the moderating effect of the Northern and Rural counties has been overwhelmed. Of the around 3 million residents of Nevada 2,300,000 live either in Clark or Washoe county. Esmeralda County's population is less than 900.
My FIL, may he rest in peace(he was a tough guy to like) did some good things to insulate the his family from liberal creep in the electorate. They had just about completely sold out of the Las Vegas real estate market, at near top, and bought and improved a bunch of contiguous parcels in a rural county. It was tough for them, all of the kids and most of the grandkids(one of the reasons he was tough to like, my kids weren't) had been raised in Las Vegas, they left behind a lot of friends and memories. But should the need arise there is a refuge for the whole bunch.
Before he passed one of the last places sold was the family's vacation cabin in Incline Village. Because, "It smells just like California now!"

One of my last acts before leaving Nevada after a 10+ year tenure was to vote in the same election Mr. Sandoval became Gov. I am proud to say I voted for him.

Sadly, Nevada has become much more liberal. Most of the financial capital used to garner support for that cockamamie bill came from outside the state though. I kept in close contact with many friends there and got regular updates as to the bills getting proposed. I hope things get better. Though, I'm not holding my breath.

As a non-relevant aside: I would like to point out that organized crime (i.e. "The Mob" or other "crime families") hasn't actually been a real influence since the late 80s. I worked for MGM Resorts Int'l for years as a Financial Analyst. The Don, isn't sitting in a dark smoky room calling the shots. It's usually a jerk CEO doing that instead. Now, if you want to call MGM Resorts Int'l, Harrah's Ent., Stations Casinos, etc "organized crime" as a euphemism to being large corporate entities that is a separate matter.

I end this with this declaration: I don't want Texas to end up like that. I will fight it tooth and nail to keep it this way and maybe even push to make things slightly more conservative. I like the, "Leave me alone to take care of me and mine," attitude that made this state what it is.
