Killeen PD contact, Nice outcome

Post by E.Marquez »

My bike was knocked over in a Sears parking lot today in Killeen. Called 911, to get a case number, they elected to send an officer out to take the report. An officer stationed in the mall also responded.
We spoke for several minutes before officer 1 asked for ID, presented CHL and DL, he handed the CHL right back, asked if I was armed, I said always, and if it was ok, can I leave it safely in the holster and not touch it? He said sure and that was the last of it.

Report taken, store video footage reviewed (nothing seen, one pass of the cam it was up, next it was laying over)
All in all a non event as far as CHL was concerned... polite, professional and at least outwardly unconcerned. :hurry:

Again my experience with KPD, was a long ways from isolated reports of negativity.

Good story. We need to remember that for every bad contact with the Police, the vast majority of the public's experiences are good, just nobody talks about it. I am usually very proud of Texas Law Enforcement. All of my friends and contacts on any of the PD around Fort Hood are, not only conservative like me, but usually even more so. When senior NCOs were required to do Courtesy Patrol in and around the Killeen area, I have seen Police Officers spit on, cursed at and etc, while all the time they maintained a very professional demeanor. I know I couldn't have. I often forget this when reading the news about those Police Officers, in the minority, who step across the line into bad behavior. :thewave

LOL, oh yes,, that was required of all company grade commanders and 1SG when I took my first company in 2005 at hood, and the program has come and gone at the whim of III CORPS or 1CD commanders.. It was less about patrolling (controlling) our Soldiers in real time and more about knowing what your Soldiers are up to, into, hanging out at.
Though the opportunity to provide leadership at the lowest level without Desk sergeants, jailers, judges and bail bondsmen was often available throughout the night.

Presumably, you were inside, came outside to find bike knocked over?

Any significant damage?

I would've had a cow if I found my beloved bike knocked over after returning to it. (well, when I had my last and best that is)

Yes in Sears, all of about 5-10 min... Lady came in and asked the guy wearing a red motorcycle jacket, riding pants and boots carrying a red base color helmet if he (I) was riding the red bike outside (she pointed out the door where my bike was parked)
I bolted for the door thinking "they" would be standing there.... NOPE, gone in a flash.. just my bike on it side laying against a shopping cart return cage.

Left upper fairing crushed.
Fairing stay bent.
Mirror scratched.
Fuel tank dented

$1700 in parts alone street price (about $1100 my cost)
That does not include labor (free for me but still)
That does not include hidden damage not yet identified upon disassemble and full inspection.

Insurance claim started,.. likely they will want to "total" the bike, as by years it's old.. Though flawless, meticulously maintained, low milage and highly modified with both off the shelf and custom parts. Suspension, Brakes, motor, body work, frame, electrical, controls..... it has lots of work in it.. Im not totaling it, even if I have to repair on my dime.

E.Marquez,

I am so sorry.

Vandals or careless drivers - If only they could be identified, hunted down and made to pay...

You truly have my sympathy.

Glad to hear you had a good LEO encounter. As the saying goes, there ought to be a special place for people who do things like that. The same types walk through parking lots, randomly keying all the cars in a row. I have never understood what motivates people to do that type of thing.

Glad it was a good encounter... but since you called them, as opposed to a stop- I would expect nothing less. :tiphat:

True, mostly though the 1st LEO to respond did not know I called, and the 2nd was not positive I called or the witness.

It did, but Progressive came though..
There was some back and forth at first on collision vs comprehensive.. but after some heated debate and that question settled the the claim inspection was fast and fair, a check cut on the spot and instructions provided for submitting a supplemental claim (just pics and a few words describing the additional damage "You will likely find as it comes apart"

So check deposited last night, and parts being ordered today.. Wed of next week I'll have a pile of stuff to put on.

Now to go get a copy of the police report for my files.
