But a Canadian woman who saw the post looked up Carter’s Austin address, determined that it was near an elementary school, and called the police

So a citizen of another country, turned investigator, is the source of this???

My $.02 is that we have degenerated into pursuing whatever comes in on the phone call. Our daughter, a police dispatcher, was telling us yesterday about a call that came in for MWAG (man with a gun). The description was that his shirt had ridden up, exposing the gun in a holster. They were getting ready to send an officer when the supervisor intervened and asked them what they planned to do when they got there. He called it off or we might be reading about that in this morning's paper. One of our neighbors had a son who rides a dirt bike around their house. Their neighbor kept calling police who responded and couldn't find anything illegal about what was happening. Finally the police threatened the reporting woman with arrest and now she goes to pay phones and makes the report anonymously. Police are still on occasion dispatched to the house. This one has been happening, on and off, for a couple of years.

My point is that it seems like too often, people with too much time on their hands, too little understanding of the laws and too much interest in other people's business are the catalysts for these situations because of their calls to police. It amazes that the patterns of bullying in the school that go on for years go unchallenged and yet a random comment on an online gaming site ends up like this - because a "citizen" report. Making the comment wasn't the smartest thing to do but if this is the level of zero tolerance that is going to be used, a lot more people are going to jail, too. It comes down to pro-active investigation of potential threats versus simply reacting to whatever comes in via the phone.

Yeah, it's not like a DA would ever pursue unjustified charges. "rlol"

Typical news media w/o the correct facts. This person is Justin R. Carter. I decided to see what real facts are out there. He is not incarcerated in Austin. She came up with a last known address in Austin. APD may have been involved initially as you have to investigate the threat, but he was found south of here. He is incarcerated in COMAL COUNTY. I have attached court info below show this. That means COMAL County is prosecuting him, not Travis County in Austin.

Similar story about regretting what you say. Back in high school after 9/11 happened we went on a school trip. We flew back and at the air port a classmate said out loud " I left my bomb on the plane". Joking of course but security heard him. They arrested him and called the plane back to the airport and sent a bomb squad to search it. He learned his lesson.

Sheesh,
Apparently the initial deal he was offered was 8 years in prison in exchange for admission of guilt. How do these DAs live with themselves? REF: http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/06 ... t-j29.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He's not out because the initial bond was $250k and later increased to $500k.

I heard some interesting radio commentary reflecting on some of the twitter posts related to the Zimmerman trial and what will happen if he's found innocent. To me, it seems these threats are a lot more credible than what this 19-year old (adult) made on facebook... The kid does not have a good lawyer, at least not one that he's paying for himself:

So why is what this kid posted any worse then the tweets and FB comments calling for looting, rioting and the murder of innocent whites if Zimmerman is acquitted? :mad5
BTW, an anonymous donor posted his $500,000 bond and he is out of jail http://newday.blogs.cnn.com/2013/07/12/ ... ?hpt=hp_t2

The younger kids who should not be playing games rated M for mature have the biggest mouth. Parents are the idiots buying these violent games for their 8yr olds.

Yes I play Xbox live. Come at me.
I play video games from time to time as well, on my computer. I do NOT play on-line games anymore (and not for years) due to knowing what you said above to be very true. The "chat" function of the games are the worst. And I agree that a LOT of it is little kids. I'd have suffered some corporal punishment as a kid if I talked like these kids do now.
Yeah little kids have some nasty mouths. You can set up parental controls on game consoles and disable chat and messages. The biggest problem I see is parents buying kids games rated for people 17yr old and up. If you are not 17 or 18 then you cannot buy those games but the parents are buying them.
What is wrong with the parents buying them? If they feel their child can handle it then their is no problem. It is just like giving a child their first rifle, if the parent feels the child is ready then who are we to say otherwise?

I am not sure why you think those are more credible? I would say equally credible. Perhaps the local district attorneys are looking into it? And their threats are mostly based on the outcome of an unresolved trial. The other one is a statement that is not awaiting an outcome.

More or equally - the reaction isn't the same.
There were some recent secret service agents that were talking openly (joking) about killing the presidents wife. They got fired, not locked up.

In regard to this case, an anonymous donor posted $500k in bail and this kid is now out pending trial.

I'm most offended by the waste of my tax dollars.
