Not gonna get hot enough to do anything. You could probably leave it under the windshield and would still not get hot enough to cook off a round, but would be too hot to handle when you put it back on.Pecos wrote:I leave my Glock 17 holstered & in my trunk while at work. My concern is will the Texas heat set off a round with one one the tube? I use Critical Duty Ammo.

Not anymore. I've gone everyday last week and they've had everything as late as 4pm! I picked up a box of .9mm CDPecos wrote:Ill let you know if the center core melts.![]()
The Academys in San Antonio are always out, they keep it up front now. Ill check this weekend again.
The guns are a good price too.
It's only in the low 90's here today but we have been up to 108 last week.
Even then, the plastic of the pistol will probably melt long before any ammunition cooks off. I know of one dude that, for some strange and inexplicable reason, decided the oven was a good place to hide a loaded polymer-framed pistol. One day, his mother-in-law was over, decided to bake something, and set the oven to pre-heat without opening it to check... I got to look over the pistol some time afterwards.CC Italian wrote:You could leave it out in the sun in death valley on a metal tailgate and it would never go off! I believe you need at least 300+f to cook off. Maybe some one knows the exact temp but if it is hot enough to cook off outside all human life would be dead. Unless it is in a fire or oven your fine.
Wish I could find it as readily in Houston. I've lucked into a box or two when dropping in but it's been few and far between. I have been finding it online though. Wish they sold Critical Duty in 50 round boxes.jayinsat wrote:Not anymore. I've gone everyday last week and they've had everything as late as 4pm! I picked up a box of .9mm CD
HORNADY CD doesn't have bullet set-back? I have pulled a few rounds that seem to me have set back.
tape a round to the exhaust manifold and you might get it to cook off. Some aftermarket headers will glow bright red at night.rotor wrote:This might make a good youtube video, place a cartridge in a pan, gradually raise the temp and see what it does take to set it off. I am surprised that we don't have more cases of self ignition in Texas in the summer. Unless it is in that 300 degree range.
