How Conservatives can win the next election
Very interesting transcript of a speech by Michael Medved.
He cites statistics that challenge what we thing we know about why we haven't gotten rid of Obama, and offers a method to fix that going forward.

Uh... isn't that problem going to be self-solving the next presidential election?

Re: How Conservatives can win the next election
I think the speech is garbage. I believe it was Mark Twain that said "There are lies, dam# lies and then there are statistics". I don't really believe any polls or statistics anymore.
IMHO, one of two to three things (or perhaps both, or all) happened during this election - take your pick, but I am deeply convinced
1. There are so many stupid or uninformed people in this country now, that we will not survive it, and these simpletons are actually voting.
2. There are hordes of people voting that have no right whatsoever to vote and they vote for the clown that is giving away free stuff because under the present system they are recipients.
3. The election was rigged - supremely rigged
My vote is for number 3 or a combination of 1,2 and 3. There are steps that can be taken to correct all of this, but the people in power who could make such changes have absolutely no desire or intention to do so - Congress
IMHO, the following common sense steps should be taken
1. Anyone who is employed by a government agency cannot vote in any election that would be a conflict of interest. Federal employees should not be allowed to vote in national elections, only state and local election. State employees could vote in national and local election, but not state elections. City employees could vote in National and state elections, but not city elections (there are countries that do not allow government employees of any kind to vote in any elections and it makes a hell of a lot of sense)
2. If you are receiving government assistance, you cannot vote in any election until you are off assistance for at least 12 months. To be allowed to vote under such circumstances is a conflict of interest that even a idiot should be able to understand. There would be certain exceptions for folks on social security, people receiving benefits for disabled children, etc. but the exclusion list would have be small and make sense from a non-conflict of interest stand point.
3. Voting will go back to punch cards and electronic voting will be banned because it can be manipulated on a grand scale.
4. Absolute positive ID must be presented when voting, no exceptions, as well as proof of citizenship and voting eligibility. (no illegals, no felons, incarcerated people, no dead people, etc.)
5. A nationwide electronic instant access database will be kept on non eligible and eligible voters, so that it can be checked when you show up at the polls. When you vote, it is noted that you voted so you can't vote more than once in that election. This data base would be connected to all of the agencies mentioned above to list all of those who should not be voting or do not presently have a right to vote.
6. There would be a honest and determined effort to find and convict those who have voted illegally. The penalty should be two years at hard labor and loss of all future voting right (if any). If they were found to be here illegally and voted, it should be 10 years at hard labor and deportation.
What really scares me about this last election is that it means the system is broken or corrupted beyond repair and if you are any study of history you should know that this sort of thing eventually leads to revolution or civil war - something I pray and hope not to see in my lifetime. More and more people in my circles are convinced that this is where we are headed, so apparently I am not the only one that can see the dark clouds on the horizon.
Enough of a rant I guess.

Uh.... if you'd read what he actually had to say, he talked about trouncing the three Democratic re-treads that will fight for the next nomination: Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and John Kerry.n5wd wrote:Uh... isn't that problem going to be self-solving the next presidential election?
The point is how to position the message so that Republicans can consistently capture an electoral majority.

Tex, your wishlist is just that. None of those things will ever happen unless there is a revolution and a new constitution.
You've already said you don't want that.
Medved has tried to identify a way forward that is doable.

Re: How Conservatives can win the next election
There was an error in his interview, and I'm gathering it was unintentional. He's quoted as saying:
The good news is nobody wants to stay single, religious and poor, right? Republicans are what Democrats want to be when they grow up. That is the truth.
I believe he meant to say:
The good news is nobody wants to stay single, faithless and poor, right? Republicans are what Democrats want to be when they grow up. That is the truth.

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.
Re: How Conservatives can win the next election
That's a colossal stretch. If this were true, the only solution would be complete and violent overthrow of the entire government. I don't buy into that. Not at all.TEX wrote:I

Because punch cards can't be replaced or manipulated?TEX wrote: Voting will go back to punch cards and electronic voting will be banned because it can be manipulated on a grand scale.
I agree that electronic records can be changed, but with a little basic security, you remove most of the risk. We can't go back to the middle ages. And with modern records, including swiping your ID, it's trivial to make sure that people only vote once. Think about it this way, the more we move to electronic elections, you're encouraging a younger more upwardly mobile generation to vote. This might be good if you have a conservative agenda. It'll be better for the turn out of the voting block that you're after.
I think one thing is right about the article. Republicans have come off as non-empathetic and the Democrats are using it for all that it's worth...
