CHL on COE land
Ok, I'm tired, and read way too many posts about carrying on Corps Lakes, so I'm thoroughly confused. I need a simple, concise answer...can a CHL legally carry on COE lands? Or, is the water the only place that's off limits? What is the ruling on leaving handgun in your vehicle if you're hunting on COE land?

No. COE land is off limits as well unless there is a shooting range you are going to.Texsquatch wrote:Ok, I'm tired, and read way too many posts about carrying on Corps Lakes, so I'm thoroughly confused. Texsquatch, understand that this includes not being allowed to store your gun in your car at lake-side parking lots. ALL COE land is off-limits.Keith B wrote:No. COE land is off limits as well unless there is a shooting range you are going to.Texsquatch wrote:Ok, I'm tired, and read way too many posts about carrying on Corps Lakes, so I'm thoroughly confused. You also can't have bows, ammunition, fireworks, and alcohol. I'm sure there are other things I forgot.

Re: CHL on COE land
so they let hunters carry shotguns in but you can't keep a concealed pistol???? that makes sense.....

Re: CHL on COE land
There is a current legal challenge to the CoE ban, so hopefully this will get fixed soon.
If you're interested, you can keep up with the case at: http://www.mountainstateslegal.org/case ... -engineers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: CHL on COE land
This may be a digression but I think it is related. My bug-home route (getting from work to home in the event of hurricane damage, a problem arises, etc) would take me through George Bush Park/Barker Cypress Reservoir/COE here in West Katy.
1) I assume Westheimer Parkway is somehow excluded from the COE restrictions? Otherwise, every time I drive through there while carrying I am subject to arrest/fines?
2) If my assumption about driving through is okay, what about walking next to the roadway if required (roads blocked due to damage/accidents, etc)? In a true bug-home situation I intend to have a backpack with water, poncho, etc but also my EDC and probably the Kel-Tec Sub2000.
This would also apply to the roads in the Addicks reservoirs for other folks.
Thoughts?

I could have sworn that at one time there was a proposed bill to legalize CC on COE land??? Guess the bill did not get passed...

Missed passing by 4 votes - needed 60 - only got 56 thanks to filibuster bull.
Re: CHL on COE land
Let's hope the litigation leads to a nation-wide change in the COE's rules and not just a new process to apply for specific individual exemptions or something.
This is definitely something i can get behind, and one of the many reasons I have decided not to spend much time on Lake Grapevine or Lake Lewisville since moving here in October of last year.
