Can you carry in a nursing home?

Post by thetexan »

Can you carry concealed in a nursing home if there is no 30.06 notification?

If not why not. If yes, based on what?

My daughter belongs to a dance troupe , She is 14 years old , the others are grown women . The reason I promoted the dance idea was that they preformed for nursing homes and charitys , she has danced since she was 7 . They visit 3 rest homes in the not so good part of town , Becky and I get to these a little early and I walk them all in , the parking situation in the rear of the buildings is a bad situation as far as transits and dope heads go . I carry at all three facilitys .
Just a good word .............I love when they go to the 'poor' nursing homes , the people there are so appricatiive and happy to get any sort of entertainment , The members of the troupe are great ! They circulate and sit and talk to the residents , laughing and trying to bring a smile , they try to remember names to make it more personal . At the 'exclusive' homes most simply get up and leave seemingly bored with the simple entertainment provided .

The nursing/rehab facility my wife was in had an old Vernon's Civil Statutes sign, I quietly ignored it.

Whatever became of old Vernon?

I worked for a local law firm while in high school and college, summers etc, and VATS is burned into my memory.

Did he get the boot or something?
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Yep, he sure did. Since the 70's Texas has been in the process of replacing the parts of VATS with the various codes. Every session they move more and more over. There are still a few articles left in VATS but it is very few.

was in the valley a couple of months ago. Went with the wife and her fam to visit her grandmother and i didnt notice any signs until i was walking out. On a corkboard printed out was a sign with 30.06 and blah blah saying it was illegal to carry. Is this legal it wasnt the normal 30.06 sign just something someone printed out with ms word.

if it fit the 1" sized lettering, contrasting colors, conspicuously posted, with the full and proper wording, and in English and Spanish, it is legal.
I assume however that since it was on MS Word, (letter sized paper probably??), that it was at least void of the 1" sized lettering, but that is my guess only.

If it did not meet 100% of the requirements, then it is not legal and until you get verbal (you cannot carry here, or a printing that meets the specifications), keep on carrying on, and keep it concealed.

i believe i took a picture but no no contrasting colors or 1 inch letters just regular size 12 font black and white if i hadnt looked closely it would have just been another note on some board.

Sounds like the notice failed on size, color and conspicuousness (is that a word?)

Old Vernon wasn't always known as old Vernon - when he was young, he was known as Young Old Vernon...

Just a minor technicality, but black and white are definitely contrasting colors. It failed on size definitely (one inch would be 72 point, I think) and it is probable that it failed on a lack of being conspicuous (that is how you avoid asking if conspicuousness is really a word ) enough.
