Magician's "Bullet Catch" on TV

Yeah I saw this one the other day I think. Did it happen in some city handgun range, and they rushed everybody out afterward, then showed Captain Goober (or whatever his name is) in the hospital with a giant bruise on his shoulder? I rewinded it, and explained it to my wife, who then said, "what a lame trick..."

Yeah, you are thinking about the show we watched. Indoor range in big city, pandamoneum rushing everyone out and a bruise supposedly caused by a piece of glass. The other part of this one that I liked (sarcasm) was that the glass was between the camera and Captain Goober, not between the shooter and Capt'n. The shooter went through the same training Angelina Jolie did in "Wanted." He could bend it like Beckham.

Yes, and the shot goes to the high left side of the glass.

When you're "bending" your shots, you have to account for the ocular illusion of the glass, like water "bending" a straw. I'm sure the expert marksman was accounting for that.
And just to get completely off topic, shouldn't there be huge debates about whether or not 9mm or 40cal bends the furthest but with better terminal ballistics?

I wouldn't doubt if that's real. As far as the other stuff, ya'll are digging too deep. Magic isn't real? It's entertainment, and for the lay public, it's a 'wow' factor for them.

I wouldn't doubt if that's real. As far as the other stuff, ya'll are digging too deep. Magic isn't real? It's entertainment, and for the lay public, it's a 'wow' factor for them.

Just watched that one a little more thoroughly and I have comments: First, the bang appears to me to be an added sound effect; Second, the huge plastic mouth guard behind the cup probably helps (and is why he can't close his mouth after he takes the cup out); Third, the bullet in his hand appears not to have upset on impact, and any normal lead bullet would have even at mild velocity, it appears to me to come out of his hand as he tries to shake the bullet out of the cup; And I strongly suspect that the projectile that was fired was a frangible one, especially considering the amount of dust and particles that leave the cup after impact.

But "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." still holds true, and part of the fun, to me, has always been trying to figure out how they did that, and even more so if I can.

Personally I like magic tricks - when they are done well. I went to a Harry Blackstone show as a kid and was amazed. I've seen street magicians that blew my mind (not Chris Angle). The guy tightrope walking across the Grand Canyon without a net while not really a magician, was awesome.

The Glock Shot to teeth show was a complete dud - cheesy lead up to a cheesy and obvious trick. I want my hour back.

I'm not a magic hater either. I enjoy most of the shows...but this particular one had waaaay too much hype and does not even come close to fooling someone with nominal knowledge of firearms. But like someone said, anybody else in the general public were probably shocked and awed and left wondering, "what will Captain Goober do next?!"
