Gun ranges south of Houston?

Post by BamBam »

I am looking for a gun range on the south side of Houston. Indoor or out. Any suggestions?

Greenwood and Bayou Rifles are too. I think Greenwood is closer to Alvin. I don't know any public ranges, only these two clubs (plus PSC as SeamusTX pointed out).

Marksman, Pasadena Gun Center, and Texas City are 3 more options.

It is near Lake Jackson. http://www.greenwoodgunclub.org/

I'm not a member but know several people who are members, and they are very nice people and good shooters. All I've heard about Greenwood is good - never heard about any unsafe practices or negative comments.

I hope this helps.

A number of Forum members are planning to shoot IDPA at PSC at its regular, monthly match on Saturday, June 23. That would be a good chane to come out meet a bunch of us, check out PSC, and if you feel comfortable shooting the match, puttin' some spirited holes in cardboard with us. There's a new-shooter orientation at 8:30 a.m., and the match generally starts at 10:00.

I live over an hour's drive, with no traffic, from PSC (ergo the tongue-in-cheek location listed on my profile: I was late arriving for a class there last April, thus the location excuse ;-) ; probably time to change my profile) but their membership year starts July 1, and even I'm tempted to join despite the distance and gas prices...

The PSC Website is http://www.psc-range.com/.

IDPA at PSC is http://www.pscidpa.texasshooting.com/.

If you like a comfortable and secluded place to shoot, pistol, rifle or shotgun I'd recommend Bayou Rifles. We've been a member there for a little over a year and really like it. Ranges for 3 yards all the way to 1000 yards at the Juliff range which is just west of Manvel. There is another range for pistol and small bore on the west side off Hwy. 6 and I 10.
Don't have the IDPA and other "games" as PSC does but we do have several long range rifle matches monthly at Juliff and pistol small bore matches at Addicks. By joining you get the use of either facility.
Bayou Rifles is a members only course but you can bring guests.
Check them out here:

I like the Marksman just off SR 3 in South Houston. Indoor, air conditioned, clean, nice gun shop. They were very helpful when I had problems with my Glock. You can shoot handguns or shotguns there.

I'm probably going to join PSC this summer as I want to do some high power rifle shooting and start IDPA.

We'd be pleased to have you as a member, but you do not have to be a member to shoot our organized matches. Just come on out and give it a try!
