well, in my own defense I must say that I am GLAD that they posted the wrong sign, and I will not disabuse them of their stupidity. I went to my CHL class with the intent to be able to be armed for my own protection. The instructor did talk about signage and he talked about all types of buildings where one cannot carry, but to my recollection, nothing was ever mentioned about banks.
It seems to me that there are stories in the media every month about some nut killing a bunch of people in some business, school, church or mall etc etc. I also now DEFINITELY believe that within the next 2 or 3 years, these stories will be weekly, or even daily, and become a part of commonplace occurrences in this country.
I am not anticipating sitting around waiting to become a victim. If I'm in a bank, my workplace, theater or mall, etc, when some psycho starts shooting, I want to be able to defend myself.
As far as the bank question, I supposed that I have all along just sort of equated the idea of a 'bank' as akin to something like a federal building, and that's why I was so surprised to find out that, absent the correct signage, it's legal for a CHL holder to carry in a bank. I thought that since the FBI investigates all bank robberies, I somehow equated that to mean that they are 'federal' buildings etc.
Thanks everybody for correcting my knowledge about this. And yes, I DO believe that everyone should be allowed to carry anywhere/everywhere for personal protection. That being said, it still seems odd that you can walk into a bank armed.

Believe me, you are not alone. I can remember my first few trips to the bank when I first started carrying and being a little nervous. For me, it was more because I thought that the level of scrutiny would be higher and that really comes from not being completely confident of your concealment. People can tell you "cover it up then forget it" all they want but until you have been through it a few times yourself, it really doesn't sink in.
Our Federal government is definitely an intimidating factor in many of our lives - and it shouldn't be. The FBI is charged with finding BGs, not trying to make the rest of us feel like BGs. They can look at me all they want. I'm squeaky clean. As long as I'm someplace where I'm supposed to be, I'd happily walk up to an FBI agent today with my gun on my hip. I would not have been happy about doing that just after I got my plastic in the mail. It took time.
