Republican candidate for governor Greg Abbott said Tuesday he supports making it legal to openly carry handguns in public. The Texas attorney general promised that if elected he also would support allowing guns on college campuses.

as long as he doesn't have completely opposite views on a couple other subjects he'd have my vote!

Greg Abbott is a very strong supporter of gun rights. And, even if he is not with you on all subjects, do you want Wendy Davis to win?

I have no clue. I don't know either of their positions on anything, or any other candidates who will be running. Nor will I care until next year.

The liberals are working very hard to take over Texas. They've made it their special project. I guarantee you his support of open carry and campus carry will be used to smear him as an extremist. He'd better be ready to defend himself, because the squishy middle is where the election will be won - or lost. This election will be a lot closer than people think it will be. The leftists are spending megabucks here to turn the state blue.

He'll get my vote, but isn't Perry also for these things and yet we still don't have either?

This is only a guess, but I think he's referring to the 'fifth estate', which is a term used to describe the web bloggers. It's an extension of the 'fourth estate' which is a term used to describe the media in general.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Please clarify this statement.Tic Tac wrote:You can see it on some gun forums already with the fifth columnists rampng up their smear tactics on open carry.baldeagle wrote:The liberals are working very hard to take over Texas. From Wikipedia:
So...perhaps he means a bunch of trolls out there on other gun forums already ramping up the rhetoric in advance of the 2014 gubernatorial election.Making reference to the medieval concept of "three estates of the realm" (Clergy, Nobility and Commons) and to a more recently developed model of "four estates", which encompasses the media, Nayef Al-Rodhan introduces the weblogs (blogs) as a "fifth estate of the realm". Blogs have potential and real influence on contemporary policymaking, especially in the context of elections, reporting from conflict zones, and raising dissent over corporate or congressional policies. Based on these observations, Al-Rodhan suggests moving beyond traditional thinking that limits the “estates of the realm” to governmental action and proposes a broader perspective in which civilians or anyone with access to a computer and the Internet can contribute to the global political change and security.[5]
