SOLD: S&W 686 4" Stainless .38 Special Only

Post by QB »

SOLD

Like new S&W 686 4" barrel, 6 shot, stainless. Chambered for .38 SPECIAL ONLY (barrel is marked S&W .38 SPL. +P), it is NOT a .357 mag/.38 Special. Purchased NIB and stored in safe, never fired except factory tested. I have an identical revolver but it's 3" and balances better for me so I'm selling the 4".

Comes with case, manual, lock, fired casing, warranty card.

PRICE: $775

Buyer pays $25 shipping/insurance. Gun is shipped USPS Priority from my FFL to buyer's FFL within the 48 Continental United States. Will not ship to California. Will sell face to face in Dallas, Tx area to buyer with TXCHL or TXDL. All ATF/State/Local rules apply.

Method of payment: U.S. Postal Money Order

Please email me me if you want additional pictures.

First "I'll take it" posted on this thread, followed up with an email or PM, gets the gun.

Thanks

Yep....I have one that is a 3" and love it....wish I could find another one. They make them for either overseas or for agencies that only allow .38 special. Not many for sale ever. There is one on GunBroker now for $825 but that's the only one. Haven't seen a 3" in "forever"!!!!

I NEVER shoot .357 mag and sort of like guns that a little unique which is why I jumped on my 3" and then the 4". Never had a 4" and found that it just is too heavy for me to balance correctly (I have arthritis and bad joints in general).......

That is pretty cool. I am a fan of the 686, heck I have one, and I had no idea they made them in 38 Special/38+P only. I wish I had the money. I love unique weapons.

I am a new learner here too. Couple/three of them passed through my hands over the yrs but never knew they chambered any in .38 only.

I have a model 60 made in 1990...the model 60s were altered in 1994 to be .357 capable...

I'm not a S&W historian but I would think that the model 686 was always capable of shooting .357 mag as long as it was chambered for such. I don't think there's any difference other than the chamber, at least not that I can find. These made in .38 special only were done so due to restrictions by agencies or other countries or "whatever". Both my 3" and 4" are new production with internal locks so someone still requires them to be in .38 special only. Just a little background from what I could find on them....

Nice looking gun, love wood grips. I don't mind keeping the 4" and in fact have some new grips coming for both my 686s. They are the wood grips that are on some of the Performance Center guns, were hard to get but are finally on they way.

Did a google search and found some info. Never knew about this. For my curiousity, can the revolver chamber hold a 357 and still close or did they make the chamber shorter to keep people from putting a 357 in? I have a S&W 19-4 38 special /357. I love S&W revolvers. This is quite interesting and I wish you success in your sale.

Someone else asked me about the chamber when I got my first one, the 3". I had to borrow a .357mag round to test it and it did NOT fit. I don't have the round anymore but will try to borrow one again and see if it fits the 4" gun. I'm pretty sure it will not but ya never know.

Funny you brought this up. A couple years back I gifted a Lady Smith 38 special to my daughter. For some reason I am thinking I was able to put a 357 round in it but now you have me wondering if I am recalling it correctly.

Well shoot... just read a few more posts. i think my memory is failing me. I bet I wasn't able to put a 357 in it.

Thanks I am waiting on grips to arrive also. I ordered a set of Black and silver from Altamont finger groove combat with S&W medallions. They shipped priority 2 day but looks like usps is going to make it 4 days :mad5 and not get to the house till tomorrow. I will post a pic once I get and install them. I saw your gun on S&W forum.. and like a dummy I posted that yours was for sale on here. sorry

Wow, beautiful. My grips are arriving tomorrow and I'll post a picture also. They don't have fingergrooves because most fingergrooves don't match up with my fingers

Altamont grips are gorgeous, that's for sure.
