Fobus IWB

Post by Zero_G »

Anyone tried the Fobus IWB holster? I've seen rave reviews of it online, but talking to a dealer at a recent gun show he said he didn't carry it because everyone he'd sold was returned.

Is it a leather vs kydex thing, or just the Fobus in general?

I've never bought one personally, but most people that have consider it a cheap holster. It's probably fine for range time, but not for everyday use.

Comp-Tac has a higher quality, and he will repair or replace if it breaks.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Ok, I’ll be the weenie that gets himself blasted…

I’ll admit it, I own several Fobus holsters, and actually carry them often while on ranch chores.

I have one for my G-19 & 23, one for my Kimber 45, another for my XD 45, one for my 92F, and last but not least, one for my Walther.

I find them to be very useful around the ranch since unlike the leather I typically carry off ranch, the Fobus does not have problems with rain, oil, diesel, animal droppings, or mud. Heck, I’ve been known to throw it in the dishwasher after an exceptionally dirty day.

Another advantage to Fobus is cost, they’re cheap. I figured when I broke one, I would just replace it, and would still be way ahead of the game on cost. The only problem is that in 4 years of using them, I still haven’t broken one.

I’ve been knocked down by cattle I was doctoring, thrown from irritated horses, I’m constantly climbing onto and jumping down from tractors, and have never had the weapon fall out of the holster.

Now I have no experience with their IWB offerings as all of mine are OWB paddle holsters. None of mine are Robo…they’re all basic holsters.

My carry when in “Town Dress is leather OWB or IWB depending on what I’m wearing and where I’m going. I’ve recently bought some higher end Kydex holsters and I must admit I’m fairly impressed with the quality of manufacture, comfort, and speed of presentation. Both the leather and higher end Kydex are more comfortable then the Fobus, and I am thinking about using the Kydex for ranch work due to the comfort.

But for now, I’ll probably continue to use my Fobus holsters for ranch work until they wear out.

Now that I’ve admitted to the sin of not only owning, but actually wearing a Fobus holster, let the berating begin ;-)

I guess LT forgot that he knows me.

I also carry a Fobus paddle daily, plus a Fobus paddle double mag carrier. They work just fine for me; the pants I'm wearing make more of a difference, comfort-wise, than the holster does.

I don't plan on sticking with the Fobus forever, but I'm not changing until I change guns. When I get a 1911 for daily carry, I'll look at other holsters... but I betcha I'll be using a Fobus as a backup.

Oh, and Fobus holsters aren't Kydex. They're an injection molded polymer. Kydex comes in sheets, and is heated and molded to shape. Kydex is thinner and stiffer than the plastic used in Fobus holsters.

All I wear is the Fobus Paddle holsters OWB I love them and I probably will get some IWB fobus as well. The absolute easiest holster I have ever put on and most comfortable to wear.

Price is great to!

KB,
I knew you mag carrier was Fobus. I saw that when we were talking about the index forward or thumb forward on the mags. I did not see the holster though.
Friends & congrats on the wanting a 1911.
You Shot that Mac well.

I know this is OT for the IWB discussion, but on my daily carry Fobus paddle, I shaved down the forward edge (trimmed about 1/4" and faired the edge). I bought this set before they started adding the red rubber padding, so I glued some 10/12 oz. leather to the paddle and trimmed to fit.

Nice and comfy as a 31 ounce pistol (+ammo) can be.

I have a Fobus paddle holster for most of my guns. I use them for range work and the occasional carry holster. Considering the cost and functionality, I think they are well worth having.

I've not tried any of their IWB holsters yet. In fact I only have one IWB holster and I don't like it. I know I should get a good one, so if you buy one of thes post us a review
