South Padre Island
I going with my wife to a conference on South Padre Island next week.
I'll be free all day to look around since I'm retired and just a tag along on this deal.
I'd apreciate any information on any gun shops or Pawn Shops in that area that are worth visiting.
I've never been to the valley before and anybody with any opinions on good place to see or eat I'd appreciate hearing about.
Thanks

Heya Jungle Work!
My wife(6 months preggo) and I went to S. Padre around 2 weeks ago just so she can see the beach one last time before birth lol. I did not see even ONE gun shop anywhere, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I was wanting to window shop myself. It was my first time there, so I surely could have missed it.
However, I can recommend some FANTASTIC places to eat!
Sea Ranch - (The absolute BEST 9oz filet and King crab in my life - not the same atmosphere, but steak was = to Del Frisco's)
Marcellos' - Wonderful Italian/Seafood
Pirates Landing - Wonderful food and HUGE portions!
(Found out later these are all owned by the same place)
Be safe and enjoy your trip!

I don't ever recall a gun shop or pawn shop on the island or in Port Isabel. Since I haven't kept up with what's going on in Brownsville, I can't comment on that but you could call American Shooting Range and get their opinion.
Guns 'n Goods in Harlingen is the closest place I can think of and then it would be Glick Twins in Pharr and Hole In The Wall Range in McAllen.

Not any.
Add Scampi's and also La Jaiba to the list of restaurants to do. Scampi's is the most upscale both on the island or PI. La Jaiba is great for their reasonably priced, but top quality, food. It's not very touristy.

Was in Harlingen last week visiting my bud, and went to Guns 'n Goods; decent selection and they had holsters on the wall where you could touch them. The prices seemed small townish (only selection and folks don't trust the interweb). I Went to south padre and ate at louies backyard ($21 seafood buffet) it was ok, I should have tried some of the others. Did not notice any pawnshops.nemesis wrote:I don't ever recall a gun shop or pawn shop on the island or in Port Isabel. If it wuz me, I'd think seriously about chartering a boat for a day of some deep sea fishin'. Might even snag a good marlin this time of year. Probably cost ya at least as much as a good pistol.

You have to eat at DIRTY AL's -- a complete hole in the wall with standing room only during peak meal times.
It is on the end where the fishing boats pier. I was there earlier in the month and as we ran into the locals and asked where to eat it was highly recommended. It was the best food we had while we were there -- but it IS really dirty -- eating with your hands. The shrimp is AWESOME.
Blackbeards was just "OK" - geared to the tourists, but I've had better seafood in chain resturants in Dallas.
There's a brewery on the island if you're into microbrew -- the beer is good!
