Happened to an upper middle class or wealthy husband with his wife Christmas shopping at an upscale mall in gun free Newark, New Jersey.

New Jersey number two on Brady score.

Saw that. Very unfortunate. I bet the shooter didn't know he wasn't supposed to have a gun there. If he had maybe he wouldn't have done that. Nah!

Very sad and very strange. Do thugs always commit murder and carjack people in the northeast for a 10 mile joyride or do they just like killing people?

Maybe the spouse can file a large Lawsuit against the State for disarming them and failing to protect them. Seems fair.

My guess is that he did it for whatever they had purchased and just drove the car somewhere to ditch it.

Some of the libtards on the government propaganda channel (MSNBC) were squawking about needing tougher gun control last night. Really??? New Jersey has some pretty tough laws and these clowns act as if it is the wild west in Jersey. Maybe it is, if you are a criminal.

It IS the wild west if you are a criminal in Newark. The crime problem in Newark ranks right up there with Chicago. While like Chicago, most of the crime is neighbor on neighbor within the city, there were many examples like this one where the criminal element spread outside of the city to prey on the unarmed citizenry. We lived about 30 miles from the city and I flew out of Newark Airport several times a week, having to drive there at very early and very late hours.

The bad news is that there is a lot of support for the gun grabbing politicians in the area. A 2nd amendment advocate is a rare bird in that environment.

Not much one can do if the Citizens of New Jersey wish to remain unarmed targets. Crazy.

The Short Hills mall isn't in Newark. It is about 14 miles to the west in a VERY upscale area where crimes of this type are infrequent - in other words, what people call a "safe area."

Sadly, they often confuse low frequency with immunity and are shocked when reality intrudes on that fantasy.

Then they all gather around the crime scene tape clucking "I never thought something like this could happen here." They may even lock their car doors and look around once or twice before getting into their vehicles for a week or two.

After two weeks, they're almost all back to doing what they did before - providing a fertile victim pool for any willing opportunist.

Sounds like Plano. Same story, different scenery.

I stand corrected, the article subhead was Newark, NJ. That said, I was in and out of 'Joisey' during construction of the WTC's and have no intention of ever going back up there no where no time.

Thank you, Excaliber for the clarification.

It was a technical detail only to help our members understand this didn't happen in an obvious gang war zone where such things should be expected, but about 14 miles away in a very wealthy suburb where "hunting parties" from gangland are uncommon, but where those who venture forth will find a target rich environment.

Your take on Jersey is spot on. I have to travel there from time to time, and it's high on my list of least favorite places to visit because of its government.
