Soldiers arrive at DFW 6/6/7

Post by jbenat »

My wife and I were at DFW last Wed. morning (6/6/7) when a flight arrived bringing in soldiers from Irak. There were a group of patriots there to greet them with flags and red, white and blue banners and clothing. The whole gate area stopped what they were doing and gave a very lengthy applause. It was a wonderful experience with many proud wet streaks streaming down the faces of the travelers as they applauded and the brave warriors waved back.
I finally remembered I had my digital camera and got a few pictures.

Sorry I had to direct you to the pictures. For some reason (probably ignorance), I couldn't post the actual pictures.

Very cool!

I don't know about you guys, but there wouldn't be any lines they'd ever have to stand in to get their bags (baggage claim), and they are certainly not going to carry them out to their cars...And make sure they are on their way home with as little delay and strain as possible...

My stuff is secondary...I'll come back and get my stuff after they are on their way! ;-)

Its the least I can do for folks willing to put it on the line for me...

I'm proud of each and every one of them!

Who are the greeters?

Post by jbenat »

I think this group meets returning soldiers on a regular basis. Does anyone know who they are and how they can be contacted? I would sure like to thank them for being such good patriots.

Hi, I've flown into DFW when troops have come home and saw these greeters welcoming them home. I wondered about it too. I looked and found this info on the DFW Airport site: Welcome Home a Herol Today.

They are there for every troop arrival. One of the soldiers in our church & his family have been greeted like that 4 times now.

An R&R flight arrives at DFW almost every day. The folks in the picture are volunteer members of the Airport USO. They are there for each flight to greet the troops.
A lot of the men & women volunteers are from the Vietnam era and they have vowed to not let history (from their era) repeat itself so they openly celebrate the safe return and show gratitude for the brave men and women sacrificing for each of us.

DFW airport is proud of the troops and they have promoted the greeting of these inbound flights and the USO efforts there by donating space and events for the soldiers.

Having come through the gate a few times I must say as a soldier it is quite a welcome.

We often stop in Bangor, Maine they also have folks that greet us.

It may not seem like much, but there is no words for how you feel when you experience it as a returning soldier.

My only regret is some of my comrades did not get the chance to see it.

Frankly, I still get choked up whenever I see the pictures. It has that effect on me.

If you a part of it, thanks. If you are thinking about, please try it once and tell me you do not see an expression on a soldier's face you will not forget.
