Did I mention I watched the teens putting the decorations back where they belonged. Their parents made them own it...LOL. I told them if they decided to do that again they were more than welcome to decorate my yard.

Joe also had the immense good fortune to have the testimony of a plainclothes detective who had just pulled up, saw the action immediately preceding the shoot, and backed up Joe's version. Joe's big problem was the running commentary to the 911 operator. As Will Durant put it, "Nothing is frequently a good thing to do, and always a clever thing to say."03Lightningrocks wrote: The main reason joe got away with it was he claimed they were coming at him.
You want neighbors like Joe Horn.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Hope this passes muster. I had some deer decorations out last year woke up the next morning and they were in a breeding pose.03Lightningrocks wrote:Did I mention I watched the teens putting the decorations back where they belonged. Yes it does... that one must be pretty common because the house down on the corner has been dealing with that about three times a week. The guy across the street from me suggested a booby trap. I suggested they check the laws on booby traps before making that move. Maybe I am weird but I find innocent pranks like that funny. I would be real bummed out if one of my neighbors blasted a teenager doing what teenagers do.suthdj wrote:...."Abraham".....

Me too... and very very true. Joe Horn darned near hung himself because of his comments. Someone posted a link to an attorney on here once upon a time. The attorney was giving a very good talk on how to behave when one finds themselves in a self defense situation where they utilized deadly force. I wish I could have found it but the point of it all was that the police are not there to be your buddy and everything you say can be used against you. He recommended the closed mouth method and to call an attorney to do your talking for you.mojo84 wrote:"Nothing is frequently a good thing to do, and always a clever thing to say."

Re: FW Homeowner Shoots Burglar
Exactly... which was why I thought the two situation could be compared. The FW guy has no police witness. The FW guy went outside to confront the BG just as JH did. Both claimed they fired because they feared for their lives... and both ran their mouths more than they should have or needed to. I am not sure JH would have walked if the police officer had not said he saw the BG move in his direction. It is not easy to claim you are in fear for your life if you go charging into a situation that is itself inherently dangerous to begin with. What happens if the FW BG claims he saw the door open and went to investigate? What if a person really was investigating a door open situation? I dunno about others but for me, it sure seems like the risks far outway the advantages to going outside the safety of my home looking for trouble. At least for a city dweller. I can understand a farmer doing this. The sheriff may be hours away and a half million dollar combine being stolen could destroy his life. In the city a cop can be there in a few minutes. Again, they try to break into my house... I will open fire!JALLEN wrote:Joe also had the immense good fortune to have the testimony of a plainclothes detective who had just pulled up, saw the action immediately preceding the shoot, and backed up Joe's version. This is my philosophy, also. There may be multiple bad guys, or someone else may have already called the police and there you are standing outside holding a firearm . . .
