So my hubby and I decided that after 3 weeks of frustration with my old laptop HD we were gonna have some fun and take it to the range for a slow and painful death.We also got a few other HDs from a friend of ours that owns a comp repair store.This video was shot from 15-20yards.I only shot the first HD (my lappie HD) the rest were shot with by my hubby.We were using his Ruger Vaquiro revolver w/a 7.5inch barrel (hubby's gun) and my Springfield GI .45 Champion w/a 4inch barrel.I was shooting 255gr Round Flat Nose and he was shooting 300gr RFN plus some of his cowboy action shooting rounds w/black powder accidentally got into the mix as well *cough hack cant breathe!* I hate all the detrius/smoke from those black powders.

One suggestion: tripod!

...I feel kind of dizzy....

Whenever I've had a dead HD, I've always taken it apart for the magnets. If you get the platters off the spindle, you can hang them from fishing line and have some reactive targets.

Looks like an older IBM TravelStar, a/k/a 'DeathStar' because of the exceptionally high failure rate. IMO, you made go use of it b/c that's all the olders ones are good for. The newer Hitachi TravelStar drives work like pros.

Personally, I like thermite to destroy harddrives. It looks pretty when it's burning and obviously the drive becomes totally unreadable. Really, it's just the light show I like too watch the most.

about 15yards.the camera we used had an awesome zoom feature.I felt like we were right there in front of it.But we both stayed behind the line and out of the firing range so no range safety rules were a problem.

...and yes we should have used a tripod lol but we didnt have access to one that would work under that camera,so we had to improvise.

Being one from the IT world, I have a whole line of hard drives and computer shells that take tons of 45, 9, 40, 7.62, 223 hits. It looks like a computer grave yard at my place. In my field it seems to relax me

LOL! yeah I bet it would.I know that we messed with the first HD in the video for 3 weeks before we gave up and put a new one in.So I went from 35GB HD to a 120GB HD and double the RAM while we were at it.

So yeah we got some satisfaction out of shooting the old one after so much frustration.

Never leave a defunct hard drive laying around. I could probably find your banking information on it and so can the bad guys... DESTROY IT!!!
