Always carry spare mag?

Depends on what I am doing and where I am going. I always carry two pistols.
Extra magazine is not always about how many rounds you will need. Sometimes a quick fox for a malfunction is a different magazine.

Not often enough. I do when I carry my Shield. I need to get a mag carrier for my Glock (which I don't carry that often), I just haven't plunked the money down.

I carry a .40 which is 15+1. The spare mag stays in the truck with 15 in it. I just bought a .45 1911 which holds 7+1. When I start carrying it, a couple months from now, I'll probably carry an extra mag with me and keep one or more in my truck.

Bad guys don't always travel alone.

15+1+15 for me
Re: Always carry spare mag?
That could change though. Since I don't have my Chl it isn't much of a bother to carry an extra mag in the truck

ALways have an extra mag. Its a minimal addition and helps balance the weight of the pistol. Frankly in my addled age, there have been times where I've holstered up and forgotten the pistol, but never the spar mag (I'll just rationalize and say my rig is so comfortable I can't tell...yea)
*There might be a malfunction and need to clear.
*I'm realistic about my shooting accuracy.
*Half the reason I have it is for dogs. For some reason I seem to attract packs of pitbulls and other nasties when I walk the dogs and am afraid a single mag might not be enough if it came down to it.
I was reminded of this the other day when a young German Shepherd forced its way out from under a fence to come charging at us. In the kerfluffle I ended up on the ground with my face six inches away from its face. It turned out ok, but I noticed it was out with a very large bull dog the next day when I drove by the house on the way home from work.

Re: Always carry spare mag?
Since my new carry holster is a "Texas Concealed Carry" by J.M. Bullard it has mag holder with the holster as one unit, I do carry extra mag. My EDC (Colt Defender) is 8+1. When I used to carry a SA XD9SC with16+1 in a Crossbreed super tuck, I never carried extra mag. I figured 17 was plenty.

Before I got laid off, my edc was my Beretta Nano with the extended mags. With that one, I carried two extra mags: 8+1+8+8. Now I carry a m&p .40 with no spare: 15+1. The Nano is a single stack, so it's easier to configure the extra mag carry. Not so much with the double stack m&p. Plus, I'm not nearly as accurate with the Nano as I am with the m&p.

I personally think it is a personal issue. Where your comfort zone is. I generally don't carry a spare mag unless I'm traveling. But that is just me. If I'm traveling say to a lake for a few days fishing I carry a spare and also a spare weapon.

I always carry a spare. Better to have and not need it then need it and not have it. That's my general philosophy within the limits of practicality and reasonable statistical probability that I will need it or the 100% chance that it just makes me feel better.
Darn it! Now will I have to carry a BUG?
I'm running out of hiding places and all the extra weight makes my pants fall down. If I have to tighten my belt anymore I can't stand it!

Chance favors the prepared. Making good people helpless doesn't make bad people harmless.

Even Barney didn't carry one in his gun. He carried an empty gun and one round in his breast pocket.txglock21 wrote:I'm like Barney on Andy Griffith...I only carry one bullet in my gun.
Just kidding! But I don't carry extra mag(s) only because I never felt the need to have more than my gun holds (14+1). YMMV

And I always have two spare mags with me.

Re: Always carry spare mag?
I usually carry an extra mag with Hornady defense and Remington 147 grain(ball ammo). If I'm going to be at my shop for a while, I'll put 4 or 5 mags of the variety in my computer bag.
