Three dead in Indiana grocery store shooting

Post by jmra »

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nati ... e/4504397/
"A gunman walked into the store and used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot and kill a woman, then walked to another aisle and shot and killed another woman, Smith said. One victim was an employee and appeared to be in her late teens or early 20s and the other was a shopper who appeared to be in her 40s, he said. They were found about 12 aisles apart."

That was a quick response by LEO's. You never know when "crazy" will happen.

The media floated the buzz words out there as well. "Large caliber / semi-automatic" will soon be an "evil thing" if not already.

Store has someone in their Legal dept that knows what they're doing:
Martin's Super Market posted a statement on its Facebook page, saying "Thank you to our community for your thoughts and prayers tonight. We will comment further when we can do so responsibly and appropriately."

KSAT (San Antonio) reported that one of the victims fired back, but there's been no further mention or corroboration. Prayers for the families.

Perhaps unsurprisingly the suspect has a history with the court system: http://mugshots.com/US-Counties/Indiana ... 92365.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Once again, we have a shooter whose friends and acquaintances are pretty much going, "Oh, we saw that coming." Apparently his Facebook page was chock full of idolizing serial killers.

Such a tragedy.

Victim 2 was 12 aisles away. Even with him running, a chl would have had time to draw even if it was in her purse. The proper course of action is to draw and attempt to flee/hide correct? If not, hide kids behind grocery basket and move away from basket to engage, if there is no chance to run?
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

+1 to both.

I had been following this on the Indiana Gun Owner's Forum, looked up some new info. According to one of the forum posters, that store forbids employees to carry even if they have licenses, and store security alternates between unarmed and off-duty cops; apparently that day was either unarmed security or none at all. The stories say the store has a great video system tho, so the cops will be able to determine exactly how the women were killed. Modern day equivalent of the chalk outline, I guess.

This story says police were on scene three minutes after a 911 call, and that they had been trained in active shooter scenarios, which I take to mean "go get him ASAP." One of the forum posters says from first shot to police arrival was six minutes. Kudos to the two young officers, it sounds like they did exactly right as fast as humanly possible, and saved at least one life.

Elkhart shooting heroes: Officers Jason Tripp, Cody Skipper

Unfortunately three or six minutes was still too long for the two women, and just in barely time for the manager. One story said killer was threatening and taunting the manager when the cops showed.
