Question about drug history on the online chl application

When i was 16, My mother put me in a rehab at a hospital in houston for two days for prescription pill abuse. I wasnt court ordered or anything she just did it as a scare tactic. (and it worked!!) do i need to list that as drug history? seeing that it was voluntary? and it wasnt court ordered?

The form DPS provides for reporting history has this instruction

Indicate any history or information, of treatment and/or diagnosis received by, commitment to, or residence in:
a drug or alcohol treatment center licensed to provide drug or alcohol treatment under the laws of this state or another state

Yes, you must report it.

You must be 21 to get a CHL, so it has been over five years since your treatment. IMO, you still have to report it, but if you don't have any other substance abuse or other issues you should be approved. IANAL or MD or DPS, etc.

If you didn't do anything wrong, then why not answer whatever the police may ask you?
I mean, good grief, you don't have anything to hide, what possible harm could come

However, if you haven't applied yet, you might want to reconsider. There's growing evidence Texas DPS doesn't follow the confidentiality requirements in the CHL law so getting your handgun license from another state could be a better choice if you care about things like that, or might care about things like that sometime in the future.

This is very bad advice. Failing to report something that requires reporting is grounds for denial of your CHL.

I don't think that hillfighter was advising the OP not to disclose, he was advising him not to get a TX CHL. I believe he was suggesting that if the OP got a FL (for example) CWP, if the OP was pulled for speeding in an anti-gun state, when TX DPS reported his DL details back to the officer that made the stop, no CHL details would come back, because the OP did not have TX CHL, only a FL CWP.

Honestly, I think this is so remote a concern, I'm not worried about it. Especially if I have some time on my hands... If MD wants to violate my rights, I have time and patience and can afford a good lawyer.

I believe the exemption from GFSZA in TX far outweighs the concern of your CHL status showing up on a stop out of state.
