I just installed a CMC 3.5 lbs trigger on my Bushmaster 308. Sweet break, and easy to do.

Took the Bushy to the range this morning and was thrilled with the trigger, it was everything I thought it would be and then some. My groups really tightened up (as much as they could for my 18" barrel.)

It's probably more an issue of finding the loading it likes best than an 18" barrel issue. With the right ammo (77gr Fiocchi, in my case) my 18" pencil barrel will keep all the rounds on target at 500 yards.

I was shooting about 3" groups at 100 yards which is about the norm for me with Hornady supermatch or PPU, now I'm fairly certain the problem isn't me. I'm disappointed with the groups, now thinking about a good 20" barrel.

Interesting thread. I still think a fluted premium 20" barrel will be more accurate than my stock Bushy barrel (or probably also a premium 18" barrel.)

Knock me over with a feather - Remington factory ammo in 150 grain did almost as good as his hand loads. I might have some of that ammo on the shelf - I should look. Yup - ammo is another huge variable I'm dealing with, maybe I should get into reloading .

I just got my Bushmaster zero'd with some marginal Magtech 150 grain. I don't really trust that ammo. Today I'm going back out with some match grade ammo to see if there is a difference. I'll post back here with a range report. I'm hoping to tighten up my groups with the trigger upgrade and better ammo.

I'll be very interested in your experiences. Your Bushy is a .308, right? I looked in my ammo stash and my .308 Remington is 180 grain and not 150 .

OK John, just got back from the range. Yes, mine is a Bushmaster MOE 308. I got set up @ 100 yards with some 168 grain HPBT Prvi

I had it zero'd with 150 grain Magtech at 50 yards. The first rounds of the Prvi were about 6 inches high and slightly left. Made scope adjustments (Nikon 2-7x32 Prostaff) and set up a clean target after it was dialed in. I was able to get 13 rounds in a 2.25" group.

Now let me also say that my eyes aren't that great anymore, and there was a pretty stiff wind blowing. I'm sure a better shooter than me could have put that group at 1.5 inches or less. (Possibly a one MOA rifle, but I won't know with me shooting it)

My next trip out I plan to use some PMC 147 grain BT. If it shoots good, I'll probably stick with the 147 grain ammo as that is the NATO weight.

I would not recommend Magtech ammo for gauging accuracy of a rifle. The Prvi was much more consistent. I'll let you know how it likes the PMC 147gr.

I have some of that PPU in 168 BTHP - think I bought 200 rounds several months ago, I'll shoot it next time. Let me know how it goes with 147 grain. 13 shots in 2.25" ain't too shabby.

A better barrel may be better, but that article was concerned only with the length of the barrel.

BTW, congratulations. You've also got me considering a better trigger for my M4.

Was at the range yesterday to try the 147 gr PMC ammo. It was OK, but the 168 gr Prvi yielded better groups. So far the Prvi has given the best results as far as tighter groups. I have some Winchester 150 gr all copper hog rounds that I'll try next.

Also I've had some FTE issues. It doesn't happen often, but it's kind of frustrating. I've cleaned the weapon after each session. While cleaning it this evening, I added a 006 o-ring to the extractor spring. Hope that cures the problem.

I'll report back after trying the Win hog ammo.
