M-4 Carbine complete upper $450

Post by match308 »

Took two of these in on a trade:
Douglas 1/7 Twist chrome moly barrel, M-4 Contour, A2 Flashhider, Mil spec receiver with M-4 feed ramps and T marks , Milspec M-16 bolt carrier group and charging handle, A2 carry handle with rear sight. Unsure of maker, but they look very nice. Factory test-fired only. Has square forge mark on receiver.
$450 plus shipping each. Will FTF in DFW

I am not an FFL but I am thinking the upper length of 14.5 only matters if you put it on a rifle lower. Making it a short barrel rifle. I was at a gun show and asked about this a couple years back. I was told the lower is either registered as a rifle or pistol. I am sure an FFL will pop in to clear it up, but that was how I understood it.

Legal to own as the upper on AR style weapons is not the registered part.

With that said, you cannot attach an AR style upper with a barrel or barrel + permanent flashhider that is less than 16" to a rifle lower without first registering the lower as an SBR.

However, you can attach this lower to a pistol lower without a stock or vertical fore grip.

With all that, be careful of "Constructive Posession" when you have a short upper in the same location as a rifle lower that is not a registered SBR.

The M4 has a 14.5" barrel so I think that's what gigag04 was asking.
