And this happened in Detroit, no less.
Good job to the mom...I just wish she'd been able to hit center mass. In the heat of the situation, however, I think she did just fine.
Kudos to the Detroit PD for picking these guys up so fast afterward.

This story is a good lesson for those that look down at Hi-Point firearms.
The Hi-Point you can afford is better than a sharp stick.
Way to go Mom!

I saw this! I had to smile, she stepped up and saved herself and her children. Standing ovation and raging applause for mom!

If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Way to go Mom!I feel blessed that I afford better.
However, realizing not everyone can sort of sheds new light on "saturday night special" laws, doesn't it? Those laws do nothing to keep guns out of criminal hands, but does make it more difficult or impossible for lower income families to afford a firearm for defense.

"Saturday Night Special", that's a nostalgic term.Pawpaw wrote:As do I!WildBill wrote:Nice job indeed!Pawpaw wrote:This story is a good lesson for those that look down at Hi-Point firearms.

This happened back in the 70s. My next door neighbor in the apartment building was a poor law student. He didn't have much money, nor did he know how to cook so sometimes when we had dinner we would bring him some food. One day I was over at his place and we started talking about guns. He told me that he had never seen or held a real handgun [he was from NY]. I asked him if he wanted me to bring one over to show him. I had just bought a new one that I was very proud and wanted to show it off. He said that he would like that so I went back next door and got my new revolver.
I came back with my gun, gave him the five minute safety talk, opened the cylinder and showed him that it was not loaded, and handed it to him. He said that he didn't think it would be so heavy because they didn't look that heavy on TV. Then he asked me if it was a "Saturday Night Special." I laughed and told him, no that was just a term used by the press and there was no real definition, but this was definitely not a Saturday Night Special. He handed me back my brand new 4" Colt Python and I took it back to my apartment.

The story says that the three punks were "familiar to police." Now, they've tried armed robbery. It would be interesting to follow how many more events in the next three years they are involved in where they are familiar to police because of this one

Good for the Mom. This is yet another story to rebut the Liberal claim that everyone with a gun is just itching for a chance to kill someone. If you are found guilty of armed robbery, you will face a potential life sentence. If serious injury occurs in the commission of the offense or if an aggravated assault is committed in the commission, you will face a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 2 years.
