For reasons I can't understand, what with all the gritting and grimacing I do - They look Mah-Vel-Ous!
Well, except for their color, what with strong cigars (sadly, I quit them) and coffee, they have certain golden gloss...

I had an abscessed, crowned molar pulled a few weeks ago and the dentist asked if I wanted it to try and sell it. I was staggered by the question. Once I regained my cool, I asked, "...to whom..."?
What does this have to do with word usage?

There is an excesssss of ssssses. They used to be a dime a dozen, but now they are a dollar a gross.Oldgringo wrote:We had a yankee neighbor when we lived outside Disneyworld (imagine that) some 30 years ago who would say, "I'm going to "Wal-Marts" or "K-Marts"". Where does the "s" come from? Another one is "anyways" where does that "s" come from?

How long did that take? 20% inflation in one year is bad but a 20% increase spread over a few decades...WildBill wrote:There is an excesssss of ssssses. I sincerely apologize to anybody I offended by suggesting the Second Amendment also applies to The People who don't work for the government.

A dime a dozen = 12/10 cents = 1.2/cent
A dollar a gross = 144/100 cents = 1.44/cent
I attribute the reduction in price to computers. It is much cheaper to type and "s" than to type set one.

The word "shrimps" is insulting. They prefer to be called "little crustaceans."WildBill wrote:How about shrimps? I see that on the menu at many Asian restaurants.
