Damaged Pride in Glock, Wondering About Kreen?

I was a die-hard Glock guy until a few weeks ago, when I was walking through my gym parking lot, tripped over a parking block, and landed directly on top of my Glock 26 that I was carrying on my hip (of course every hot chick within 700 miles of me had to be in the parking lot at that time). I have a Glock brand +2 mag extension on it. I stood and dusted off only to feel the cold trickle of metal running down the back of my leg. The base plate on the mag popped off and all of my bullets spilled out down my pants leg.

I'm all about real-life situations considering the line of work that I'm in. I own and operate a repo company and am a Private Investigator specializing in Infidelity cases. If I had a nickel for every time that I've run into a guy that I've testified against for cheating on his wife in a divorce case or run into a guy that I've repo'd a car from in public, I'd have...well....$.05, but that's enough to justify being overly cautious! If that little spill that I took had been some Flying Tsunami Leap-tackle from a 350lb Samoan on a repo, then that would have left me with one 9mm Hollowpoint in the chamber to put into him...and let's say that my mediocre shooting capabilities were spot on for once, that's not gonna do much damage other than to really make him mad if I didn't get it directly into his forehead or heart!

The simple answer is 3-fold:
A.) (For all of you 1911 buffs and 9mm Critics) Why was I NOT carrying a .45 in the first place?
B.) Instead of a 26, go with a 19, which is the same size (nearly) as a 26 with the +2 extension on it, without having to modify the mag.
C.) Ditch the plastic and get a metal pistol with a solid metal mag.

I was talking to an Israeli guy from The Woodlands the other day and he was all pumped up on this Israeli pistol called a Kreen. I've looked in every crack and crevice of the internet and can't seem to find any info on them. He claims that they are the greatest, most reliable pistols on the market and can be had for a fair price. He said that when he was in the Israeli Army, that's what he carried into the sand because it was practically unheard of for it to jam.

Considering that this generation of Israelis have pretty much grown up fighting every day of their lives, I tend to want to take this guy's advice!

I'm really torn on this because for one, I feel like the parent of a k id who is an Honor Roll Student and never in trouble, then wakes up one day and decides to rob a bank. Here is my "perfect" weapon, one that I defend vehmenently on forums all over the internet, one with which I have become intimately familiar and have spent countless dollars customizing, and then I find suddenly that my beloved G26 isn't as perfect as I once thought, and actually poses a very real and scary problem in its design.

We are going to be an STI dealer, and they offer the Escort, which is a sub-compact .45 that has a solid metal mag. It is an outrageously fine weapon, but still pretty pricey, even at Dealer cost. I'm partial to the STI because it is a Texas-owned company, made in Texas, and the guy that we have been dealing with, named "Rabbit" over there, is one of the nicest, most knowledgable and honorable men with which I've ever had the pleasure to deal.

I've never handled the Escort, so I don't know how it shoots. I HAVE handled the Para Ordinances, and they seem to be cut from the exact same block from which God sculpted my hand. Para is a Canadian gun with an excellent reputation. I can get them with the FFL for pretty cheap, so I'm almost tempted to go with one of those. This Kreen has me intrigued, though. Anyone know anything about them?

That Icon isn't the gun.

And it looks just like a Hi-Power to me, down to the safety and slide lock release.

If you watch the movie, you can see the gun itself.

EDIT: and as you get further through the video, it says it's based on the Hi-Power design.

Your magazine extension popped off and all of a sudden glocks are no longer viable self defense weapons?

I dont modify my mags and they dont fall apart.

Glocks are not the problem, the modified magazine is.

Right, the Glock is your friend. I've had one Glock mag disassemble itself in 20+ years of using Glocks, and that was when I slapped a G15 mag into a G17 receiver. It's a neat way to remove a stubborn baseplate.

Anything after-market added to a Glock can reduce its reliability. If you need more firepower, you can use a G15 or even a G17 mag in the 26, giving you 16 or 18 rounds of pure firepower. It's nearly impossible to get the baseplates off of those mags.

I found a tool that makes the dissasembly of a Glock Mag a breeze, and doesn't effect the way its supposed to stay together...

Actually someone told me about it...My forehead became a bit reddened by the smacking motion I put on it...

Thats interesting about the Kareen product(s)...

Naw guys, I'm still a Glock guy. Wearing a Glock baseball hat as I type this, and have my 17 on my hip. Just a little frustrated and taken back by the occurance.

You are absolutely right about the extension being the problem, not the gun. I must have fired over 3000 rounds of cheap-o steel cased monarchs through my 26 without a solitary stovepipe, and countless amounts of good stuff, so I'm still sold on Glock, just learned a lesson about how to outfit it without it being "the hard way".

Great video download, too by the way. Thanks for posting that. I have the FN version of the Hi-Power in .40 and love it, although it is very difficult to rack. Its hard to conceal, too. The Kareen looks pretty heavy, I know the FN is like carrying around an anchor in your pocket (insert bad joke here). I haven't been spelling them correctly this whole time. That's probably why I couldn't find any info on them.

If that had been a self defense situation, the cold trickle would have been followed by a warm trickle.

D) Always carry spare magazines, and be proficient at both emergency and tactical reloads.

Excellent points! But for the love of everything holy, I hope by "warm trickle" you meant blood, because if its the other thing, that's one disturbed fella, and I probably wouldn't have stood a chance with a true psycho like that in the first place!

I have had a problem with the extensions. I have dropped my Glock unmodified mags a few times and never had a problem. I put a +2 on it and it falls apart when I bump it. It works okay with +1 but I don't trust them for anything but range time and back-up to the back-up mag. It has nothing to do with the gun. Most of the problems that have occurred with all major brands and types of firearms are either modifications or ammunition related. I like XD over the Glock but they are still great guns.
