I watched a friend's, uh, friend shoot once. He was legally blind AND an outstanding pistol shot. Turns out that he suffered from a fairly profound tunnel division though I don't know what the pathology was. My friend said that he doesn't have any peripheral distraction but has great central distance vision.

How about a light as a start and stop indicator?
