Verizon theater Grand Prairie
Went to an event there this weekend and there are valid "30.06" signs at EVERY door. I know they are invalid and unenforceable but I wanted to know what GPPD's thoughts were.

Concealed means concealed. If you know for a fact the sign are unenforceable then carry on. Cross the bridge with the police if you have to but I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh I feel ya, my Glock 32 sat with me in my chair all night at the event. I knew going in that they were unenforceable. I was bored earlier and wanted to poke the bears.
Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
Has this been sent to Charles, as a few months ago he was asking for this type of information
Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
Im not sure if he has seen this or not. The dialogue back and forth is still on going as their latest response was about 8 mins ago.

You need to get with the lessee and make them aware, if that gets you no where then go to the next city council meeting and be heard by people who can actually do something about it. Getting into a facebook argument with the PD is ignorant and to be honest you are coming across as someone who likes to grip with anyone that will listen. Take the fight to the right people, if you get arrested then battle it out with the PD in court.bubba84 wrote:Im not sure if he has seen this or not. I am not a resident and VERY rarely visit the area. As I stated, I was bored and poked the bear. Had I not been given the deflect and redirect it wouldve been left alone. I am now allowing them to work themselves into a corner. I am however, not ignorant.

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
I had a protracted discussion with GP's asst. city manager. I'll see if it's on my computer at home. The gist of our convo was the website having no weapons even by off duty LEO's. As it was I carried to a concert and had no problems (they were checking purses and such). I was citing laws including preemption laws and the last I heard was he was referring this to their city attorney. With this thread I see that it obviously went nowhere.

It will never go anywhere. The general majority arent going to know that the building is owned by the city and as such the signs are unenforceable. For the most part, they are going to see the signs and return their firearm to their vehicle.
That is what AEG is hoping for, assumably, and the city is making too much money off of the arrangement to care.

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
There is no penalty for posting a city owned building yet, so they are not breaking the law. It's up to the those CHLers to educate themselves enough to know the signs are not enforceable. I still think you need to go to the next city counsel meeting and address your concers vs trolling the police on Facebook.

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
In 2012 I took my daughter to an event at the Irving convention center. It was posted 30.06, but was not an enforceable event. Afterwards I email the City Manager, Manager of the Center, Chief of Police and City Attorney's office.
I was polite, complimentary and specific. 4 days later the city attorney wrote me back that I was right, and they would be taking doen the signs.
At the next event, they were down. One can fight city hall.

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
just wondering if anyone has went to the Verizon Theater in Grand Prairie lately... last post on this was in May... will be attending a Celtic Thunder show Sunday night... copied this from the theater website
"Guests, including law enforcement personnel, not present in an official capacity, are prohibited from bringing weapons into the theatre. Verizon Theatre does not provide weapon lockers. Weapons may not be checked in at Guest Services. Weapons include, but are not limited to, the following: Firearms, explosives, stun guns, handcuffs, brass knuckles, sticks, clubs, batons, martial arts instruments, pepper spray, tear gas, and knives. Guests found in possession of the above-mentioned items will be asked to remove the item from the theatre or dispose of it. Guests who refuse to comply will be ejected from the theatre and may be subject to arrest."
I know its city owned so is this a valid notification..

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
This doesn't meet valid notification for any location for CHL. It must meet wording in the statute.RetNavy wrote:just wondering if anyone has went to the Verizon Theater in Grand Prairie lately... last post on this was in May... will be attending a Celtic Thunder show Sunday night... copied this from the theater website

Additionally, this is a city owned venue, so they can't prohibit carry by a CHL.Sec. 30.06. TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF LICENSE TO CARRY CONCEALED HANDGUN. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder:
(1) carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, on property of another without effective consent; and
(2) received notice that:
(A) entry on the property by a license holder with a concealed handgun was forbidden; or
(B) remaining on the property with a concealed handgun was forbidden and failed to depart.
(b) For purposes of this section, a person receives notice if the owner of the property or someone with apparent authority to act for the owner provides notice to the person by oral or written communication.
(c) In this section:
(1) "Entry" has the meaning assigned by Section 30.05(b).
(2) "License holder" has the meaning assigned by Section 46.035(f).
(3) "Written communication" means:
(A) a card or other document on which is written language identical to the following: "Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun"; or
(B) a sign posted on the property that:
(i) includes the language described by Paragraph (A) in both English and Spanish;
(ii) appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and
(iii) is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.
(d) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035.
HOWEVER, if they are wanding people and you are found carrying, they may prohibit you from entering. You can fight it later, but you won't probably see the show while carrying.

Re: Verizon theater Grand Prairie
At the Verizon Theater now (1715). Waiting for the doors to open. Two big 30.06 signs by the doors. Legal wording and size. Even though I know they are not valid am not going to a test case and miss the concert. Also have no firearms on the doors.
Going to sit back and enjoy the concert
Edited to add: no wanding so could have carried in.
