Jesse Jackson arrested at gun protest
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
CHICAGO -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson was arrested Saturday at a demonstration outside a south suburban gun shop and charged with one count of criminal trespass to property.
Jackson was arrested when he refused to move away from the entrance to Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, police said. He has protested with other community activists outside the shop in recent weeks after a 16-year-old honor student was gunned down on a city bus.
Police said the shooting was gang-related but the teen was not the intended target.
Jackson, who says the gun shop's proximity to Chicago provides gang members and criminals easy access to firearms, has used the protests to call for stricter gun laws.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Catholic priest who oversees a South Side congregation, also was arrested and charged with Jackson.
A message seeking comment from the gun shop was not immediately returned Saturday afternoon.
Two teens have been charged as adults with taking part in the May shooting of Blair Holt, an honor student at Julian High School.

And unless you see it here, you'd have never heard about this in the MSM...
I am almost giddy to see what kinda of plea, and or sentence he'll get for this one...

And I wrote them a letter asking how much sense it makes for the Rev. Jackson to commit illegal acts in front of a legal business when Chicago and IL have such tough and effective gun control laws.
Having had a letter published last week, I expect I will be on the bottom of the list for selection and I am not sure that my subtle irony will express itself in print well, but unless one tries, one does not make it into print, ever.
Real gun control, carrying 24/7/365
It is a shame that Jesse Jackson has forgotten a vital part of Black American history.
It seems he has forgotten about the heroes known as the Deacons for Defense. Without the Deacons for Defense, and their arms, the civil rights movement would not have progressed as it did. These men had to take up arms against the police, the sheriffs and even the fire department to protect their families, children and neighborhoods.
He has also seemed to have forgotten that most of the early gun control laws were written to keep minorities and poor folk disarmed and in their place. To my mind, that continues to be the basis of a few of today's gun control laws also.
Jesse and the priest should go protest crack houses and gang hangouts. Oh, I forgot, those places are full of violent criminals. That is just too dangerous for Jesse and his ilk.
eta: It is much easier to protest the law abiding.

Hmmmm . . . if gang members and criminals are part of the problem, why doesn't Jesse set up a protest and block the HQ of the Black Panthers, Blackstone Rangers, Latin Kings, or whatever else the local gangstas are calling themselves these days?carlson1 wrote:Jesse Jackson arrested at gun protest

I started my letter off pointing out that Rev. Jackson was obviously right, that gun shops breed crime, after all, wasn't he hiimself just arrested in front of one, due to activities involving one?

May be alittle off topic but the header reminded me of a funny story that my chl instructor told. I'll do my best to tell it like he did...
" A guy in South Dakota walked into a gun shop and fired two shots in the air out of his .22 caliber pistol and announced he would be robbing the place. When the smoke cleared there had been 42 shots fired from 6 different caliber guns with 27 hitting the robber." So in that respect I'm not sure if any gun shop would be "easy access" for criminals.
As for Jesse Jackson, he's an idiot. I'm honestly suprised Al Sharpton was standing right beside him. These guys gotta have something to do when theirs not enough controversy going on to make them a paycheck.

This reminds me of when Oprah was supposed to move into a government housing project as an "experiment." I don't know whatever happened with that, but it made the news. The part they didn't tell is that she'd be moving in with armed guards. If housing projects are so great and they've done so much for the community...then why would you need armed guards?jrosto wrote:It is a shame that Jesse Jackson has forgotten a vital part of Black American history.

You guys have this all wrong. Here's the way things happen in real life:
1. Gang banger wakes up at 7:00am to go to work.
2. He watches the outdoor channel. It happens to be American Rifleman on and it's an episode about tricking out your AR-15.
3. He then decides that instead of working that day, he'll go out and rob some ganster.
4. So he gets his debit card ready and goes down to the local gun shop wearing his gang colors.
5. He's warmly greeted by the proprietor because gang bangers spend SO MUCH MONEY in his establishment that he's just giddy! Oh, this is at 9am when they open, btw.
6. Gang banger decides to buy a brand new Panther arms AR, fully tricked out for $2500. Then he also picks up a nice Glock 17 with night sights...because you know, why not? Oh yeah, a couple of surefire lights, a laser, scope...the whole thing. I mean, the rails are already there so why not add some tactical advantage?
7. After going through the BATF check, which he easily passes, he buys $200 worth of ammo and leaves the premises.
8. Gang banger forgets that he needed a concealed holster for his Glock, so he goes back and spends even more legally garnered money...the proprietor is even more giddy. It's a great start to the day and it isn't even lunch yet!
9. Gang banger hits the bank around his house at lunchtime. Of course he uses a note that says GIMME THA MONEY!!! and no gun, since that's what it says to do on the news.
10. Gang banger is chased down by the K-9 unit (since he's on a bicycle) and is grossly harmed by the responding dog. This action is regarded as racism since the dog is a sort of yellow color and the gang banger is some different color.
11. Gang banger is interviewed by CNN and tells how he was raised in a single family household. He had easy access to guns because there was a gun shop only a mile away.
12. Anti-gun people do a lay down protest in his 'hood to set an example about gun violence.
13. NRA steps in an helps block a bill that would exclude legitimate Americans from legally buying a gun.

This is the same priest who on camera (with Jackson and Sharpton standing right beside him) stood in front of this gun store and told the crowd that they should go inside, drag the owner out and snuff him.carlson1 wrote:

Something else you don't hear a whole lot about in MSM.
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
