Russian steel 308 ammo test

Glad you glad you good results... I've shot TulAmmo thru my 1911 and wife's FNP9 with no problems at all... clean up afterwards was good also...

I've shot a few thousand rounds of various Russian steel ammo (mostly Monarch 9mm) and haven't had a bad round yet. Not the cleanest, but reliable and priced well for plinking.

And it looks like there is plenty of .308 out there:

You'll notice a minute or two into that video that the guy was showing flattened and even pierced primers - a huge danger sign that should have given him a heads-up.

I noticed that and the guy even admitted he got too involved in having fun and failed to check, even though he noticed the second box had more "flash" than the first.

It was fresh on my mind when I read your post, so I thought it prudent to share. It could easily happen with brass ammo too.

Being a handloader I always check primers and noticed nothing out of the ordinary with these 3 boxes.

Last time I looked the Monarch I fired was Serbian made.

Recently, the 9MM Monarch I bought for practice, is Russian made.

Oh, the Serb ammo was brass, the Russian steel...

I'm not complaining, but I am curious.

If steel: Russian?

If brass: Serbian?

If this is so, what more do I need know...?

I had some TULA 308 blow up in my FAL. Blew smootchz out the ejection port and the rest of the blast went down through the mag. Blew out the base plate and puffed-out the rest of my now ruined Austrian mag. Picked up 3 other cases and all showed indications of high pressure including flattened primer, blown out primer, and cracked case heads/body.

Fortunately I have the heavy DSA top rail cover (heavy shield) so I am fine, though I did loose all the hair across my right hand. No more Tula for sure and probably no more steel-cased Ruskie crap for anything other than my AK.

The rifle still runs like a champ, so kudos to that design!
