Great day at the range

Post by pfgrone »

Yesterday, my Princess bride and I took our son and two grandsons to the range. My grandsons (17 & 14 years old) finally expressed an interest in shooting so we took them for their first shoot. Before going I had them watch the Lenny Magill video on handgun basics & safety. Then we went over each one of the handguns they would shoot - how to load them and dry fire with snap caps and what they could expect at the range (such as all the bullet holes in the ceiling and how that related to keeping the finger off the trigger).

At the range, taking one at a time, they shot about 40 rounds each thru the S&W 22lr revolver, then 20 thru the Ruger 22/45 22lr semi. Then they wanted to try the larger handguns - a S&W .38 snubnose and a Kahr 9mm. Talk about eyes getting big. Their first shot with the .38 special impressed each of them. They both shot a few rounds from the 9mm and 38 special and were ready to quit for the day.

We had a good, safe, fun day with the grandkids and they were so excited when we finished. They took their targets home as momentos and we finished up with grandpa getting to foot the bill at Fudruckers for burgers. And who had the best time? ME, that's who. And I didn't fire one shot.

Have a nice day unless you've already made other plans.

There is no better way to spend a day. When my 3 year old grandson gets to right age he is going with "Pa" to the range. I am like you I will gladly fit the bill, but at McDonalds because Fudruckers is reserved for the expensive date with the wifey.

I imagine that is a lot of fun.
When Dad was here last week, he had my baby sister (age 16) with him. I let her shoot my "big girl" gun; I was so proud of her.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

That is a GREAT DAY!!

I hope my 5 year old granddaughter that turns 6 this month will show an interest in shooting at some point in her life. I'd love to experience a day like you had.

I got to start my grandson at the range when he was 10. Started with the same thing... 22 cal rifle and handguns. His first range trip was enough to hook him, and hook me on him shooting. He's 13 now and will shoot whatever I put in his hands. Funny thing, he loves shooting the Kimber .45, .357 mag, 12 ga. guns - both SxS and auto, but draws the line on shooting the Kel-Tec PF9, P3AT and P32. Must be youthful impatience showing through anticipating a forever long DA trigger.

I enjoyed showing my son "things", but danged if I don't think it's more fun with a grandson
