Serving of arrest warrant went very bad.

RIP, brave officer.

Bexar County deputies arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody, the witness said.
Sad to hear this, but curious why the suspect would stick around? Sounds like there may be more to this story.

Either he knew he couldn't get away or he is an illegal immigrant who is willing to put up with the hassle of recrossing the border after he is deported

Your first option is possible; stunned by events and reality sinking in can have that effect.
Your second option doesn't seem to be even remotely possible; deportation would not be an option for this type of crime.
More like one would expect to get the needle.....

I agree there's more to this than is being told......that's always the case where the media are involved.

From the story, one possible reason:

"The witness KENS 5 spoke with said the suspect is a neighbor and has a history of mental illness. "

How senseless. Murdering a COP over a graffiti warrant? Surely there's more to this as Keith noted. If he truly stayed at the scene, then this coupled with his mental history may give him an insanity defense. Oh how I hope this isn't the case!

So sorry. That is really odd to stick around. Chris knew a young man who had mental issues and killed another student. He did something similar. I don't remember precisely what happened, but he is not leaving prison for a the rest of his life.

Anyway. There is likely more to the story, but I am sorry for the family. That is terrible.

Not a traffic stop gone bad an arrest warrant gone terribly wrong.

The Chief of Police was killed.

Over graffiti. Wow. My thoughts are with the chief's family. Officers really do face such a huge variety of situations throughout their career it is mind boggling.
