Two points in this story stand out to me:
One: No one knows what really happened as both the officer and bg are deceased.
Two: I don't believe a gsw to the shoulder would normally be lethal, leading me to believe the blow to the head was severe and possibly the cause of death.
Considering these two points, I find it reasonable to believe the officer was incapacitated BEFORE his weapon was taken by the bg, making the point of open-carry irrelevant.
Also, pertaining to this statement...
"I was amazed that anyone would argue with the idea that if you are standing in line at Mickey-D's with a group of 5 gangsta types behind you, that are twice as big as you, that it might be better for you if they didn't know you were packing"
What McDonalds do you eat at where you have a group of gangstas in line with you?? I would suggest you try a different one in a safer part of town. I would never put myself in this situation in the first place.
God Bless Deputy Michael Page and his family, my prayers go out to them.

And God Bless the founders of this country for having the wisdom to include the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The right to keep and BEAR ARMS shall NOT be infringed!
