Authorization from a school to carry

Hi all

Does anyone know the legal liabilities of a school that allows employees \ consultants to carry on the premises?
anyone here have authorization to carry in a school?

Welcome to the forum. Our school hasn't taken the leap but one not far from us has, Palmer ISD. Unlike some of the other ISDs that have gone with carry, PISD is not "miles from anywhere". I believe we will see more and more schools move this direction especially those that can't afford their own police dept.

I figure there are as many thoughts about legal liabilities as there are lawyers. Obviously schools don't just decide one day to allow concealled carry. A local school had a public meeting about security, spent several months working with their lawyers and gathering information from other schools that had already decided to allow concealed carry. Ultimately they came up with specific rules (i.e. extra training, type ammo, how the the weapon was to be carried or stored while on campus, background checks, etc.). Some employees that wanted the responsibility were trained, checked out, and now carry a card signed by the Superintendent and School Board president allowing them to conceal carry. In my opinion it is a HUGE responsibility for anyone involved.

I don't have a direct answer, but the schools I have read about permitting staff to carry seem to have taken one of two routes: various versions of the "Guardian" program or the School Marshal route. If you research those you may find an answer.

I posted a list of schools that I have read news articles (primarily) about announcing that the school district has adopted a Guardian or School Marshal program. the school i am dealing with is a standalone private school most information & especially the "school marshal" program are specific to public schools

If it's a private school then the school can do whatever it wants in relation to allowing firearms.
