CHL and early voting

After seeing this thread, I went and voted on my lunch break. Thanks for the reminder! Oh, and I used my CHL for ID.

I used my passport card. They said they had never seen one and wanted a tutorial about how it is used. My MIL has her free voter id card now. It only required getting her to the dps office, waiting a few hours, and having a genuine birth certificate that only cost $86.72 to get. She could vote by mail without the hassle, but she enjoys the outing. $86.72? Really?? And that was the slow route. Express got the tab up over $110. Nah, this doesn't affect poor people at all.

I did the same thing, for fun. I voted on my way home from the office on Monday at the Oak Cliff government center. After having literature shoved in my face, in the parking lot, by Paint Texas Blue folks, I went in and voted. The lady who took my ID looked at it quizzically and then, with a concerned look, said, "We're not going to have an incident now, are we? This is a courthouse, after all." I said that she didn't need to worry and since this was a courthouse, what I had the license was for (I said "it's elsewhere" as I didn't want to announce the nature of the license) was not with me. I then proceeded to vote.

I noticed a properly sized, worded, and lettered 30.06 on the way out and just shook my head. It's a courthouse (the facility revolves around the JP) so it's unnecessary. It's also a local government building, so were it not a courthouse,it would be generally un enforceable, anyway.

Was she serious?

If so I would have ask what compelled her to ask that of me.

BTW - I think it's prudent not to show my CHL. Never know these days.

I voted 'early' yesterday, and also used my CHL as my ID. No attempt to scan it, and I didn't notice whether DL's were being scanned.

Just glad to take my votes to the correct side of the aisle.

I voted today. Used my DL. Why do you want to use your CHL though? I walk up to the line and the lady at the sign in area knows me by first name. Still needs my ID. I really don't want people to know that I have a CHL even though I am not carrying because I am at the voting booth. Next lady in line knows me too. Seems that when people know we have a CHL they know that we carry and we really don't want people to know we carry. So, I tend to not show my CHL as an ID unless I need to legally produce it. And yes I voted the right way, Republican.

We voted. Hubby used his DL. I flipped open my wallet that conveniently displays my DL on one side and my military ID on the other. He looked at both. My CHL was under my DL. He did not scan anything. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with someone scanning my DL when I vote. Visually verify, then carry on.

May I ask where her original BC was? Why was hers considered non-genuine? According to the Texas gov. Website it costs Texans $22.

We all had the wait at DPS for renewal or test taking at one time or another. Don't get me started on the Social Security office, that's a nightmare in itself. And to get that passport of yours was not cheap either. At the end of the day, requiring valid identifying documents is worth it whether traveling or voting just makes sense to me.

I didn't use my CHL as ID but I voted early today and cast my ballot against Joe Straus. Not directly, but my rep voted for Straus last year, so I voted against them today. Every vote counts!

I early voted today, and handed the lady my CHL. She looked at it, looked a bit, then saw that I was holding my voter registration card. She asked for it, and said something about the CHL and scanning. I asked...

She said that they were told not to scan CHLs for some reason. She didn't know anything more. (I asked.) I think there were told that CHLs wouldn't scan.

She moved from Colorado to Texas a few years ago and we couldn't find a birth certificate amongst her things. She was born in Maryland, and those folks are very proud of their documentation.
