Parents who tried to rescue their kids were ARRESTED for being RACIST whilst the pedophiles were NOT ARRESTED. We must all speak up, vote, and write our congressmen or this WILL happen to us, too.

I couldn't agree more.

Well, I read this and mentally thought through what would I do today if a pedophile abused my kids. I would not track them down and kill them, I would let them get arrested and handled by the courts. But I was looking at it as a revenge killing, not literally stopping a crime in process.

That's not at all surprising in the UK, nor would it be in some parts of the US. The difference here would be that once it became public, there would be an outcry, and at the least, they'd have to let the fathers go. There is little sense of what self-defense means in the UK, but still a lot of it here. OTOH, a mere rescue isn't what I was suggesting --that would be only half of the equation. Fortunately I've never been placed in that situation, but a real father does whatever it takes to save his children, regardless of the personal consequences. I suspect that not only has the attitude about self-defense in the UK dulled a man's sense of responsibility, but feminist emasculation of men has also probably neutered a lot of fathers.

Well, they could, especially if a few of the got together. Guns aren't the only weapons....pipes, baseball bats, knives, swords, bows, spears.....all kinds of things are still available as weapons. You can also still own shotguns and hunting rifles in the UK, not to mention the fact that you can buy weapons illegally. Not too long ago a guy killed a couple of female cops in the UK with grenades, so clearly, guns can be had there, illegally. You're right though in that they couldn't do a legal rescue.

This is where those illegal guns alluded to in another thread are still useful. You might not be able to use an illegal "assault" rifle at the range, but when the law becomes irrelevant as in this case, the legal status of the gun becomes irrelevant.

As far as a gun ban goes, I don't see it happening any time soon. When it happened in the UK, years ago, there were already very few gun owners, and it happened in a culture that is far different from our own. Move forward to today, both the UK and the US have corrupt, lawless, and illegitimate governments. A gun ban in this context is different than a gun ban under a respected government. As has already been demonstrated in the NE, the majority is not going to comply with any gun ban. Estimates I've read suggest that many if not most Australians did not comply with their bans. And there are estimates that Europe is awash with millions of illegal guns. With the future our corrupt government has made inevitable I think our gun culture may actually be reinvigorated for another century.
