Honduras is #1 in the world for homicides per capita. They have 90.4 per 100,000 people. The US has 4.7 per 100,000 people.

Philip, I get your point, and yes it is sad......but it is also sad when CNN doesn't cover the loss of a young missing black girl from a poor part of Brooklyn or Providence....where they also have restrictive gun laws. CNN is covering this because its a celebrity. It's a shame, really.

I wish that after every death of an innocent, the news media simply said " this country or state or city has restrictive or liberal gun laws. "

After a while people would notice that places with liberal gun laws have less of it.

I don't know if they are still in jail, but Honduras had recently jailed an America ship's captain and his crew because their ship had a gun on board.

No wonder there are pirates.

This instance just goes to show why it's stupid to have gun laws that require some sort of justifiable need. Having to show that your life is in imminent danger. People don't always get a heads up on when a violent crime will happen to them, and I doubt it was no different in this case.

Something like this would suffice: "Ms. Honduras would not have been able to obtain a firearm for personal protection because there were no previous threats to her life. Even if there were, the Honduran government may have still denied her the ability to obtain one."
