Is there an expirations for reporting history

Post by JamesW »

Hello all,

I have a question pertaining to applying for my CHL...
I was convicted of aggravated menacing in Ohio in 2002. So 12 years ago.. It is a M1 offense.
It does not bar me from owning or purchasing a handgun or any weapon.

Is this something I need to disclose when I apply for my Texas CHL?

Will it affect my getting approved, My understanding is this is a non barring offense in texas as it is in Ohio.

I have heard disclosing will cause my application to take much longer, is this true?

What is the risk to not disclosing ?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum.

You must list all arrests, convicted or not, for all of your life. You will need a copy of the disposition on your case to send in as well, which you can get from the court clerk where you were charged.

As for taking longer, as long as it is not an offense that would make you ineligible, then it should be minimal on any delays.

Yep. When was that and what was the class of charge?

That was 2002 as well, although when pulling court records it just shows two seatbelt violations. Nothing of arrest mentioned.

If you intentionally falsify the document, they can and should deny your application, or revoke the license if they uncover it later.

They can also prosecute but some say that's about as likely as Holder prosecuting one of his cartel buddies for lying on a 4473.

You will need to get a disposition on those arrests. If the court clerk says there is nothing, then you need to get a letter from them saying they have no record of the arrests. You will still need to list them on the application and send the letter along stating no record of the arrests.
