It's an odd situation. If it does turn out that I am not eligible for a TX CHL yet TX and NC have reciprocity it's a little silly.ldj1002 wrote:The requirements to be granted a CHL vary enormously from state to state. The requirements to get drivers do vary from state, maybe not as enormously as CHL, but the do vary. My point was if TX is concerned about someone from NC with a CHL why in the world would TX reciprocate with NC

How did it go with the change of address part? Assuming VA is like NC, you have to notify the sheriffs office of your change of address within 30 days.Glockster wrote:Thanks to the OP and the replies, I did some checking on my own and was thrilled to learn that I can use my VA resident permit here until it expires! I had **assumed** that once I moved here, established residency and gotten my TX DL that I could no longer use my VA CHP. Some digging on the VA State Police site and a quick phone call confirmed that my permit was still valid. So thanks a lot for this thread and for those that posted replies!
Re: NC to TX CHL question
VA is different then from NC. VA resident CHPs are issued by the Circuit Court. I did check out what I have previously known, which is that you pretty much only need to update address at renewal times. You can request a replacement with a new address, and if I recall correctly it was $10 for that and I confirmed that it is not required. You are required to have one of the Government issued documents for ID purposes with the CHP, and was told that as long as I have a valid TX DL (valid including my correct address) that I was good to go.America wrote:How did it go with the change of address part? But it is very common in VA to go have problems at renewal when you have moved as renewals require less documentation and so there can be an issue with the police receiving the renewal application in the new jurisdiction and then claiming that you have to renew with the jurisdiction on your permit. It gets complicated as it can be difficult for the new jurisdiction to be able to verify your existing permit as VA has new laws on release and access that can muck things up. In general you'll often find at least one open discussion on that issue on OpenCarry's VA forum.
The bottom line as the VA State Police stated to me is that your VA CHP is valid until expiration unless rescinded by the Circuit Court, and they don't rescind for address changes.
