Sign seen on fireworks stand today

Post by rp_photo »

Tis the season for for makeshift fireworks stands to pop up in vacant lots, and today I noticed a sign on one near Mason Road and FM1093 which stated to the effect:

"No firearms within 50 feet other than police officers"

I'm pretty sure I never saw that mentioned in any Texas CH or handgun laws, and I'm at a loss to understand why the stand operator thinks its a good idea to alienate potential customers who carry.

Needless to say, it was crudely hand made with black stencil letters on a white-painted board. Right next to the stand were two people smoking.

I'm thinking that the stand might have originated in another state and/or was old.

So if a firearm is within 50 feet of the stand it might set off their fireworks? "rlol"

No, you have it backwards. If within 50 feet, the fireworks might set off the gun. :thumbs2:

§34.822. Storage of Black Powder and Fireworks 1.3G at Other Than Display Sites.

Prohibits firearms within 50' of the magazine (storage facility), other than carried by guard. I would say the guy is just trying to comply with the law.

Now, I did not say the law made any sense.

Your site only applies when at "Other than display sites" or when a Type 4 magazine is required. Facilities of less that 120SqFt have an exception to the storage regs in Section 5604. So it still doesn't make it anything official...

Just yell your order in from 50 feet back... That might get the idea across.. :-)

No need to go to the fireworks stand. Just go outside and burn some money; same thing. Lest I get a barrage of responses - it's a joke!! :biggrinjester:

If he were trying to comply with the law he would have a sign depicting the law and stating no firearms allowed including CHL. Not a sign that is for CHL's only. I'll bet that 50ft rule includes smoking.

This was at a different nearby stand and most likely under different ownership and without the sign:

I'm going to assume that the robbers passed over the stand I saw and went on to this one as surely they wouldn't disobey the sign.

I like those kind of signs. It means CHL welcome. Plus I know know I will be extra safe as the potential robber will only have a knife.
