Re: [Austin] APD: Homeowner shoots, kills intruder
Local media seems to be starting to shift the blame to the group home, which is the first place I personally would look. If someone was being paid to keep this man safe and out of trouble, being fully aware of his condition, they failed pretty miserably. It makes a lot more sense than blaming a homeowner whose goal was to protect his family from an unknown invader. Of course, comments on those articles indicate indignation that the blame should go anywhere but on gun owners. As you said, it's Austin.Abraham wrote:If you open the provided link in an earlier post, (kxan.com link) some of the comments are outlandish.
How so?
Many are defending the intruder.
While I didn't take the time to count, I'd say those supporting the defending homeowner and those supporting the intruder are roughly about 50/50.
But then, it happened in Austin where liberals flock and lefties don't believe in self defense.
A friend has a daughter my age who can't live independently -- not the same reasons as the man in this story, but similar enough to hit home. Her take on the situation is that it's important for parents or group homes caring for people with this sort of disability to make an effort to be sure they're known by the neighbors. I think that's a very reasonable perspective. Seems like if the homeowner had looked out the door and seen a neighbor he recognized as needing help, rather than a strange man acting crazy, the outcome would have been much different.
