A 62-year-old Erie man died Saturday after accidently shooting himself in the chest with a pellet rifle typically used to kill large rodents.
The shooting happened at about 3 a.m. at a home on the 500 block of Weld County Road 3.
"The exact manner and cause of death will be determined at a later date by the coroner," Sgt. Sean Standridge said.
Standridge said the man — who has not been identified — lived at the property where the shooting happened.
"There were other people there," Standridge said. "It's still under investigation."

I believe the investigation will shed more light on this.

Just a wild guess here, but I'm thinking alcohol might have been a factor.

Re: Man Dies after Shooting Himself with Pellet Rifle
I'm clueless how one "accidentally" shoots himself in the chest with a rifle. I've carried rifles for over 4o years and never did point one at my chest.jmra wrote:Just a wild guess here, but I'm thinking alcohol might have been a factor.
You're probably correct. Maybe this was a 3am drunken "hey everybody watch this" episode.
