I unzip my purse and stick my gun inside the empty compartment, making sure my finger is off the trigger and the gun is on safety during this process. Be careful when doing this.

Some years back, a friend's mother had her purse snatched when someone reached over the top of the door to the hook she'd hung her purse on, grabbed the shoulder strap, and ran off with their prize.

Never caught the miscreant, but the victim had to get new ID, notify the credit card companies, change the locks on her house, etc. (Unlike yourself, she had no gun in the purse . . . this was back in Chicago.)
