Question about buying gun(s)

I just recently acquired my CHL. (Don't ask why it took so long, because I have no idea.) One thing I have quickly figured out, is that liking firearms can get really expensive. :)

Over the past 2 months I have bought 5 different firearms. 2 of them I have sold because I did not like how they shot once I got them to the range. 1 of them my wife now has possession of. There are 2 more that I am currently looking to buy. My question is this... If I end up buying 2 more guns, that would make 7 guns I have purchased in the past 2 - 3 months, all through licensed FFL dealers. Is buying this many guns going to raise any red flags with the ATF, or any other state agencies?

you've got a long way to go. I've done transactions involving more than a dozen at a time. ATF does require that if you purchase 2 or more handguns within a 5 day period then the dealer has to file a report on you and the handguns with ATF and his local LEO. if you purchase 2 or more semi-auto rifles > .22 within a 5 day period then the dealer has to report on you and the rifles to ATF. none of this applies to personal sales.

A little off topic, but I suggest you try before you buy. Many gun ranges have rentals that gives you the opportunity to shoot a particular model firearm before making a purchase. This can save you a lot of money in the long run.

Unfortunately, not enough offer this. The ranges that I am familiar with that offer this, have such rude employee's or terrible prices, I flat out avoid them at all cost. Regardless of how special you may think you are, there is no need to be rude to customers without cause.

Another good way to try out guns before you buy, is to find somebody more obsessed with collecting, become friends, and shoot theirs before you decide to buy. This is my preferred method.

When I couldn't take it any longer and wanted a rifle for fun I asked questions here and a great guy, who is now a great friend, happened to have three of the rifles I asked about and invited me to come with him to a club and shoot them to see which one I liked best.

Try before buy is great advice that I frequently practice. My situation works particularly well because I have a membership to PSC - a great shooting range. And I have a couple of friends who are really enthusiastic buyers with a wide range of tastes. If I get an itch for a particular model, I call up one of my friends and take them as a guest with me to PSC. Of course, we often go when I'm not shopping for a new gun as well.

When you purchase two handguns within 5 business days it gets reported to the ATF via the Multiple Handgun Purchase Form. Otherwise nobody but the FFL knows you purchased them (although the ATF IOI that audits the FFL will see them eventually but there is nothing that would cause any alarm).
