Felony (bribery) CHL

Post by asolisavalon »

I was given deferred adjudication in 2003. My wife passed away shortly after our daughter was born, so I petitioned the judge to release me from my probation. My wish was granted in 2008 or 2009. Can I legally purchase a firearm. I thought about taking up hunting but I've advised to get a CHL. I'm in real estate. THANKS

Welcome to the forum.

The status of your charge is not real clear from your post. If you were just released from probation early or a differed adjudication, then it was still shown as a conviction. If the judge dismissed the charges, then you may be good to go. You need to contact your lawyer to see if your civil rights were restored from a federal standpoint on purchasing a firearm.

As for CHL, if the conviction still stands and it was not adjudicated, then you will not be eligible. If it is a differed adjudication you will have to wait 10 years from the differed adjudication date to be legible. If it was actually dismissed, then you would be may eligible now.
