Y'all is second person PLURAL, has a pleasant,smooth sound, anyone you hear using it as singular is a yankee and a carpetbagger and likely uses the harsh sounding "Youze guys" to mean the same thing.

Actually from what I've seen in common usage, "y'all" is singular. If addressing more than one person, "all y'all" seems to be popular :)

I've been a Texas resident for over 20 years, and I still chuckle at some of the things people say. I've managed not to pick up the accent or local slang.... but my daughters sure do sound like native Texans!

ok, where can we find this form on gifting guns?

I'm wanting to buy a 9mm for my mom for Xmas. I dont want to go to jail when she.... er IF she shoots ... yeah, if... someone.

How does gun "ownership" apply to a married couple? We were at a gun show a while back and "I" bought a S&W he will use and a Beretta tomcat for me. Since we were buying both from the same dealer, we just ran them both through with me as the "buyer".

If you bought two handguns from a dealer in a single transaction, I believe that means you've been reported to the BATmen as a "multiple handgun purchaser."

I suppose someone could make that claim that this was a "straw purchase" but for a married couple, you could both assert that it was a gift to your spouse, and nobody could prove otherwise.

As far as ownership of the guns in Texas, don't sweat it, you're a married couple, living in the same household. Assuming neither of you is a prohibited person, there are no restrictions on loaning or gifting the guns back and forth as often as you want, and no paperwork is required.

Mr. Fos was born in Sweden and has lived here 7 + years. He tries to do his best to rack up "redneck" points when he can. Every now and then he says "a" word that is convincingly "southern" -- but bless his heart, not very often!

Nothing wrong with gifting a gun.

Well, I have never had a problem with giving a gun as a gift. I got most of my kids their first rifle on their tenth birthday (two of the girls preferred archery equipment).

But, my soon to be daughter-in-law seems to disagree a little bit. My second son is getting married on July 28th, and I already gave him his wedding present. I was in Dury's in San Antonio when I saw they had the leftover trade-ins from SAPD buying their new Glocks. By sheer chance, my old issue pistol was there, so I bought it. Now, since I already have a Glock and a 1911, and needed a present for him, it seemed like a reasonable thing to me to give him the pistol as a wedding present. I did point out that the serial number matched my old badge number and he is not allowed to let it out of the family. He really liked it and we are going to go shoot it next week.

BUT, she thinks only a real redneck would give a pistol as a wedding gift, so I am now and forever a redneck to her. Of course, I did not consider this to be a put down at all, so I cannot disagree too much.

I'm sure the future daughter-in-law will come around. But she is right, sort of. On one of our first Christmases together, my gift from Mary was a Lithgow (Australian SMLE), my gift to her was a 1963 East German Makarov, the oldest three kids got Romanian M1969 .22 rifles, the fourth got a pellet rifle, but the baby (age 13 months) got a guitar.

Neat . . . your service piece is staying in the family.

I wish I could lay hands on the weapons my Dad had when he was in the service (an Ithaca-built .45, a Garand, a Carbine that wouldn't reliably put a Jap down, and a Thompson SMG that would.) but for all I know they've been melted down or dumped in the ocean . . . and I have no idea of what the serial numbers were.

I have already purchased matching pistols for my son and his fiance as my personal gifts for their wedding this December (ssshhh don't tell SWMBO)

and have informed son he has till end of August to teach her pistolcraft or I will.

As for legalities of giving a gun as a gift, your only obligation is to NOT KNOWINGLY give one to a prohibited person (convicted felon, mentally ill etc), just like a Face To Face personal sale, NO paperwork is required.

If you purchase a gun with your own money with the intent to give it as a gift to someone else, according to ATF publications YOU are the actual purchaser and fill out the 4473 in your name and NICS check is done on you. After that, see previous paragraph.

Unfortunately not; with all the rednecks in my family, if that were true, we'd have gotten at least one gun.

OTOH, we did get the land where our private range (and house & workshop) will be once some of the contractors around here start getting caught up. (something about having delayed every concrete pour within a hundred miles due to the rain over the last couple months )
