Range Report-Colt 1908 Vest Pocket pistol

Post by T3hK1w1 »

Well, today I got the chance to go out to my local range and shoot my colt .25 for the first time. I only fired 16 rounds out of it, due to a limited ammo supply and my wish to preserve the gun. Distance was 7 yards, 16 shots on same target. My first 2 shots were off paper as I was still trying to figure out how to hold such a tiny gun. my 5th and 9th shots overlapped, as did my 7th and 14th, which is why there are only 12 holes visible in the picture. Not bad for a pocket gun, especially of that age! Note:the ammo used was 50-grn Winchester that was at least 30 years old(The 50-rd box was marked $3.60!)

I did some funny looks at the range though  The guy behind the counter offered me $400 for it on the spot! I declined

On a side note, I had my Savage 110 in .270 Win shot in at 100 yards after I mounted a new Bushnell scope on it.
-2 shots fired at 100 yards

needless to say, I'm pretty pleased with it, especially considering I only paid about $400 for the gun and scope.

The .25 ACP is quite the little popgun, ain't it? Accuracy with them is more "muscle memory," I think, than aiming.

Gotta love that .270. Which reminds me, I need to take mine out and recheck the zero on my scope... sounds like a great "excuse" to hit the range on Sunday afternoon!

Pretty good accuracy for an "eyeball gun".

The sight radius is very short and the gun very hard to get a good grip on as you noted.

Does it look something like this one ?

This is my FN .25ACP, brought home from WWII by my father and passed on to me. I think it's a copy of the Browning 1906 Vest Pocket Pistol.

I've not fired mine yet, but did buy a box of ammo and intend to get it out to the range one of these days. Like you, I intend to preserve it so I won't fire it very much.

See thread HERE for a recent post on this forum.

The Colt and baby Browning are siblings based off the same Browning design. The main difference is that the colt has a grip safety and the Browning doesn't. I think Colt made it that way to avoid patent issues. The Browning was made in Europe while the Colt was made here. There is a company here that still makes the baby Browning as a clone.

I shot mine last Saturday at 3 yards and 5 yards. Couldn't see the "sights" at all. But still shot about 5 inch groups at 5 yards. I tended to shoot just a little high. Out of 30 rounds I had one failure to feed because I limp wristed the prior shot. Great fun!!
