Near NW Houston? Support Brooks' Place BBQ in Cypress

Post by Skiprr »

Tomorrow, in celebration of Independence Day, Brooks' Place BBQ in Cypress (corner of Barker Cypress and 529, http://www.brooksplacebbq.com/) is offering a free sandwich with any other purchase to anyone who shows them a valid CHL. Will be available all day until supplies run out. They open at 11:00 a.m.

In an interview for KPRC, Brooks said that he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and what better day than July 4th to show that and to give an item of appreciation to the law-abiding citizens who have a CHL.

Any business that goes out of its way to support CHLers is a business that will definitely see some green from me.

I went shortly after noon, and there was a bit of a line waiting. Unassuming looking place (a large trailer) but some very, very good options for carnivores. I picked up a pound of brisket, a free pulled-pork sandwich for lunch, and thanked Brooks for his support of CHLers. I'll be going back. Would love to see more businesses doing things like this.

BTW, there was also the offer of a free individual dessert if you had your handgun on you, but I declined. Not that I didn't appreciate the offer; but I don't need dessert, free or otherwise.

The brisket was excellent, perfectly smoked and fall-apart tender. But it wasn't the cheapest at $16.99 a pound. Pulled pork and sausage was the same price. The 1/4-pound sandwiches of the same were $6.99.

It's far enough from me that I won't be dropping by often for a sandwich at lunch, but close enough that I'll be picking up meats on some weekends.

Wow. Are they better than Carl's BBQ on HWY 290?

I haven't eaten at Carl's since the one on Grant Road closed. How is the one on 290?

He's up $1.00/pound since November. A little higher than average (of prices I have in my database); they range from $11.99 to $20.00/pound.

IMO one of the best I've had and much better than Goode Company.

That isn't difficult... Goode is $20/pound for brisket.

He recently offered 25% off your meal if you legally open carry at his establishment, I'm sure that's why he received it. I live not to far from there and have wanted to try the place out, now I have a awesome reason to go!

Both the food and the proprietor are excellent. I wish it wasn't a 30' drive from my house!

I saw an article in the Houston Press saying that this place received a death threat. A fervent anti-gunnner posted on Facebook that they were going to "shoot up the place" this past Saturday. I'll pause to let the irony soak in.

So of course, I stopped by on Saturday at 3:45. Unfortunately they were closed. They are open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am until they sell out. The fire was still going in the smoker, so I'm assuming they were open and just sold out earlier than normal. It is about a 15 minute drive from my work, so I will swing by for lunch sometime this week.
